" If you already have an existing ceiling light controlled by a wall switch, you can install a basic ceiling fan. The wall switch will turn on the ceiling fan instead of the old ceiling light. The pull chain controls the fan's speed. And a switch changes the fan blade directions. Turning 1 way to blow air way down in the summer for cooling and the other way in the winter to circulate heated air trapped up near the ceiling. Ceiling fans can add comfort and can reduce the heating and cooling cost for your home. If you want to install a ceiling fan with a ceiling light built-in with a separate switch to control each, you'll need an electrician to install an additional circuit, but for simple ceiling fan like this one. Here's how. The first step is to find the circuit breaker for the ceiling light and turn it off. Remove the fasteners holding the ceiling light cover and remove the cover. Remove the light from the fixtures. Locate and unscrew the knots or screws holding the fixture to the ceiling electrical box and twisting the fixture until the screw heads are over the holes in the slots. Lower the ceiling light from the electrical box. Carefully unscrew the wire knots from each wire, being careful not to touch the bare wire. Unscrew the black wire first by"
" wire and 1 to the white. No voltage should be present. Every ceiling fan is different, so closely follow the directions that came with your ceiling fan. Pass the electrical wires through the center of the ceiling mounting plate and screw the plate in place. It's important that the plate is leveled. Place washers between the plate and the conduit box to level the mounting plate if necessary. Slide the rubber mount of the ceiling fan motor into the ceiling mounting plate. Some brands have a hook that hooks on to the plate. Attach all the green ground wires from the ceiling fan bracket and the motor to the copper ground wire from the ceiling. Secure the wires together by sliding a wire cap over the 2 wires and twisting them together. Next, place the ends of the black wire from the ceiling and the black wire from the motor and using a wire cap twist them together. Now, place the end of the white wire from the ceiling next to the white wire from the motor, and using a wire cap twist them together. Following the instructions that came with your fan, attach each fan blade to the blade bracket with the supplied screws. Next, pass the motor control wires through the motor cover and secure the motor cover to the ceiling mounting plate. Tighten the screws and secure the motor cover to the ceiling mounting plate. Next, attach each blade bracket to the fan motor with the correct screws. Fasten 1 blade to the motor and then attach the blade on the opposite side. Screw on the 3rd blade and then the 4th, until all the blades are securely screwed in place. Next, check with the ruler to make sure that the ceiling fan blades are leveled. Uneven blade height will cause the fan to wobble. The edge of each blade should be within 1/8 of an inch from blade to blade. If any of the blades are out of alignment, follow the instructions that came with your ceiling fan to balance the blades. Next, pass the motor control wires through the base plate for the motor control unit and fasten the baseplate with screws to the bottom of the motor. Now connect the plug of the motor control to the plug hanging from the bottom of the ceiling fan motor. Mount the motor control switch housing to the base plate with the correct screws. Securely tighten each of the screws. Turn on the circuit breaker and then turn on the wall switch and your new ceiling fan is ready to provide comfort as well as energy savings to your home."
