How to Replace a Toilet Flush Valve
computer-generated transcript - may not be 100% accurate
" How to replace a flush valve? Turn off the supply valve located under the tank. Remove the tank lid and flush the toilet to drain out as much water as you can. Using a wet/dry vacuum cleaner, remove the rest of the water so that the tank is dry. Disconnect the chain or wire lift hardware from the trip arm. Next, remove the old flush valve. Toilets have subtle differences in the way that the flush valve is installed. In this case, you unsnap the old flapper to remove it. It's best to replace the flapper with one as close to the same design as possible. Depending on the style of your toilet, snap the clips of the new flapper over the tabs on the bottom of the overflow tube. Other designs fly down over the overflow tube. Connect the left chain to the trip arm checking the flapper to make sure that it lays level with the flapper seat. Any excess chain can be cut off so that it doesn't interfere with toilet operation. Open the water supply valve and watch the toilet bowl fill. As soon as there is enough water in the tank to seal the flapper, all signs of water running into the bowl should stop. Test the flapper by flushing the toilet. The flapper should lift causing the bowl to flush. The flapper will then close sealing the tank and the tank will refill. The toilet is now back in service."
