How to Secure Furniture to the Wall
computer-generated transcript - may not be 100% accurate
" If you have young children, it's wise to safely secure furniture to keep it from toppling. There are convenient brackets designed to help prevent furniture from tipping over. Most safety brackets have three parts. One part attaches to the wall, the other part attaches to the furniture, and the third part binds the safety brackets together. To install, note the location of the furniture and pull it away from the wall."
" After considering the location of your furniture, decide which studs to screw the bracket into. Using a drill and a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the screw, drill pilot holes for the wall bracket and screw the bracket into the stud behind the wallboard using the screws that came with the bracket. Now, carefully measure the location of the bracket on the furniture so it will line up with a bracket on the wall. For large furniture such as entertainment centers, use two safety brackets. For smaller lighter furniture, one safety bracket will work. Using a drill and drill bit that is slightly smaller than the screw, drill the pilot holes for the furniture bracket. Take time to consider what's on the other side of the place you're drilling into. Now, using the screws that came in the bracket, secure the bracket into the furniture. Move the furniture back into position aligning the bracket so that one is directly in front of the other. Lace the detachable strap through the brackets. Pull the strap tight and trim the excess strap with a wire cutter. With the strap snugly in place, your furniture is now secure."
