" I'm in the living room here. This should be 15 by 15. We've already put up this partition, which separates the living room from the kitchen and it'll bear the load of some of the second floor. This hole is where we'll have a staircase leading down into the basement as well as up to that second floor. We got a bathroom in that corner there and then 2 little bedrooms and they're I guess 10 by 13, they're about. And Ryley has already fall along building these other carrying partition, which actually separates the 2 bedrooms. So, you're looking at the top of these walls here. This opening is basically a set of doors for closets. And this one is the entry door for the back bedroom. How's it going?"
" Good."
" Yeah, it looks good. Now, you know, when we were putting up the walls yesterday Ryley, we didn't talk about these guys. These are called backers, right?"
" Yeah. Those are partition backers."
" Yeah."
" Basically, it's just 3 studs and they're all together----"
" Uhm."
" One on the flat. So that when the partition goes up, its nails brought up together."
" Pretty, pretty shaky still ha?"
" Yeah. Well, we're still gonna wind brace that----"
" Yeah."
" but not far off."
" We've gotta put bracing on the whole house on all 4 walls----"
" Yeah."
" But we couldn't really put those braces in until we'd built these walls 'coz----then if you put the braces in you'll loose your work space."
" There'd be in the way----"
" Right."
" You need to get out a carrying line."
" Right. Let me give you hand nailing this one together. We'll brace it up. Okay."
" Okay. Drop."
" There you go."
" Okay."
" And right up to the backer, okay."
" Okay."
" So, the partition can now be nailed into that backer. We wanna make sure it's closed."
" Good."
" That looks good?"
" Yeah."
" Alright."
" Okay, we're gonna leave these guys alone now. We'll just start spring bracing the whole frame."
" So, how's that?"
" So what does the spring bracing do, Ryley?"
" It just supports it, Bob. It strengthens the wall and at the same time stiffens the wall."
" Yeah. And we're gonna be putting a lot of weight on these walls, so we wanna make sure that they're as sturdy as they can be----"
" That's right."
" and you want to take out any kind of boulder that there might be in it."
" That's right."
" And we're just using a 1 x 8 spruce board."
" Yeah."
" And we're just pulling out right in the top here."
" And you wanna put lots of nails when they bend 'coz they're gonna be in tension."
" Yeah. And could be a lot of----"
" And by sitting on it like that can bring it down and then you take your shorter feet, which you're gonna toenail into the deck again. And that will allow you to adjust that."
" That will do it."
" You better get up, Bob."
" Okay. Steve, can you give us a nail in there?"
" There you go."
" Okay. Bruce, bring the [unk] in the bottom edge. Okay. Take it out then. Alright. Okay, that was good. Alright, how does that look Bob?"
" Just a bit more."
" I'll close that sill, bringing in about a half."
" That's good. That's good."
