The Art of Dovetailing
computer-generated transcript - may not be 100% accurate
" In her Quechee workshop, cabinet maker Sandra pearl gets to work on the dovetail for a drawer. She's constructing using poplar. After measuring and marking the dovetail, she gets to work with a chisel and saw. To make the cut, Sandra uses a Japanese back saw which is curved in only one direction for a precise cut. Largely self taught, Sandra learned the craft of dovetailing at the Ian Kirby studio. The pieces that fit into a dovetail are called pins. The narrower the pins the more artistic and refined the joint. When all cuts are completed, the pieces are gently and carefully forced together. With this dovetail finished, it's on to the next."
