" -You know we started out here by going over the slab and putting down insulation and then, of course, nice plywood so that we've got a warm floor here in the rec room. We've also added a little electric strip heat which we hopefully won't have to use too much, but as I had pointed out once, we're close enough to a nuclear power plant that our kilowatts are rather inexpensive around here. Then, we've gone in front of the foundation wall with pine, which gives it a nice flavor of Plymouth, kind of an old-fashioned look. We painted the space and the last thing that's been done here is to hang the acoustical ceiling, which we've kept real close to the bottoms of our joist so that we have plenty of headroom up here. Now, the only thing missing is the wall-to-wall carpeting and a ping-pong table. But let's take a look upstairs and see the progress we've made in the living room. Okay, Tom. We'll check back with you in a minute. That light fix is gonna be real nice up there."
" -Sure, Bob."
" -Yeah. Okay. Let's take a quick turn in the living room. You know one of the main things that we did here was to enclose this room, put a wall up back there. We made this opening here half what it used to be so that we have proportions in the room. And of course, last week, you saw that we were wallpapering the room with this rather formal paper with a little [unk] on it. But some of the other touches include the chimney piece that we made, Riley and I, as well as all the moldings, the chair rail that was put around the room, etc. This really gives it the feel of a very formal space. In another couple of weeks, we'll have it carpeted and decorated. Now, what you haven't seen in the kitchen is the wallpaper that we installed here which coordinates with that red paper. It has a small flower repeat on it, which again, gives the room a lot of interest. It kind of looks nice next to a big opening like we have here and it works well with the brick pattern of the vinyl flooring that we've added. So that now we have a kind of a country feel to the kitchen, and at the working end, our appliances have been brought in and our cabinets are just about done. Okay, let's interrupt Tom, our electrician, before he goes up there to take a close look at this lantern. This is what you call a Paul Revere lantern and it's a replica of things that were made long, long ago for candle obviously, but this one is pretty nice. Now, what's the first thing to keep in mind when you're putting up a new light fixture, Tom?"
" -Well, obviously the first thing, Bob, is to make sure that you don't get hurt by shutting off the circuit breaker or the fuse."
" -Yeah."
" -And then making sure that obviously the switch is off also."
" -Okay."
" -So double check. And then, you're gonna get started up there with the mounting bar that attaches to the box and the green screw up here is where you attach the ground, right?"
" -That's correct."
" -Okay. I'll let you get up with it."
" -Okay, Bob."
" -I think it's gonna be a very handsome addition to this front hall 'cause after all, we tried to have a feeling of colonial Plymouth a little bit in our split-level ranch. It's not easy to do, but this is an artistic piece that---- well, it takes the place of a hanging work of art on the wall since it's hanging from the ceiling and it's not an inexpensive light fixture because it's handcrafted. I think it goes for close to $300. But it's gonna give us a real special effect here with the light coming through all that [unk]."
