" Here's an example of the earliest home in Naples. It's called palm cottage. It was the first home built here. It was built in 1895. But most of the early homes were built in the early 1900s. Here's one, right here. It's the yellow house."
" This is quite unusual, yeah."
" It's on a nice piece of land. It's unfortunately falling in disrepair."
" It's in terrible shape, yeah."
" But it has nice lines and if someone were to fix it up, it would be a very nice home."
" Great location close to the pier here."
" That really is."
" There's a gray one. It seems to go on forever. It's over 100 feet long. Would you call that a typical Florida cottage?"
" Not really. It started out to be in the front, the first part of the house, but over the years, it was added on to. The gentleman across the street owned this property and added on to it as a dormitory for his children."
" Must have a lot of kids."
" Yeah, I think he did."
" So, they have this cottage here which really does look like an old arts and craft style cottage."
" Yeah, it's very typical of the old Florida style, and it's been really lovingly restored over the years."
" Yeah, it's beautiful. But Karen, this house looked a good deal newer."
" Yeah, we have a variety of houses right along this street. This is a concrete masonry house probably built in the early '50s, smaller though. Probably 3 bedrooms or only 2 bedrooms and about----"
" And it really says Florida with those awnings, huh?"
" Yeah, it really does."
" And what about this blue and white one? It looks maybe from the '60s or '70s."
" Yeah, that was probably built in the early '70s. Just to get an idea of value, when they built it, it was probably worth about 80,000. Now, it's on the market for 379,000."
" But it's only a block from the beach."
" Right. And that's where the value is."
" And anybody can use the beach, right?"
" Right. The accessibility is right there on every avenue."
" Yeah. And then the big, red tiled roof one over here, that's pretty impressive. It takes up most of the lot."
" Yeah. That's a new home. That was built just a couple of years ago and that takes real advantage of its lot."
" Why have they raised it up so high?-Well, they wanted to be at the new flood elevation, which is 11 feet."
" Sure, it's the only way you'll get insurance on it, right?"
" That's right."
" Well, that house would be worth closer to 600,000 or 700,000 now. And it has every amenity expected in a house of the '80s or '90s."
" Karen, this is a pretty impressive neighborhood now."
" Yeah, we're in Port Royal. This is the most exclusive residential neighborhood in Naples. It's on the most southern part of Naples in its predominantly navigable waterfront properties."
" So, these are all waterfront houses?"
" Yes. And they're all, value-wise, an excess of a million dollars. Its various different architectural styles were coming on to a Bermuda-style home. That was probably built 10, 15 years ago. So, good example of that style of architecture."
" Now, this one next door is very unusual, quite contemporary."
" Well, this is nationally known architect, Harry Weiss. This is a brand new house. It was just completed. And it's on over 312 lots of beautiful waterfront."
" [unk]"
" This is a new house that was just Completed, but it's a good example of a Bermuda-style of architecture."
" I love the color."
" Yeah, it's really nice."
" Shouldn't the roof be white?"
" Yeah, normally it is, but it has some of the other elements of Bermuda architecture, the shutters and the beautiful wooden mahogany door."
" And the pretty color, yeah."
" That's really a nice home."
" Well done. So, this is downtown Naples, huh?"
" Yeah, I thought you'd like to see our famous Third Street shopping area."
" Yeah. It's beautiful, 1- to 2-storey buildings here, very unique."
" Yeah, it's really a collection of smaller boutique buildings."
" No department stores."
" No department stores, but it's a collection of stores that are really special to our area. We have very few national tenants here."
" These are fine buildings. There's a Georgian building with the white columns."
" That's really nice. And this is one of our older buildings. This one dates back to the early 1900s."
" It does. It feels like you are living there."
" I think originally it was a meat store for Naples."
" Yeah."
" So it's----"
" And this one looks kind of like Bermuda."
" Yeah. There are some beautiful shops in there also."
" One of the best place, Bob, to see in Naples is from the water."
" Yeah."
" Take a look. There are some cottages here. These were built in probably the '50s or '60s."
" Very simple, beige cottage, you see that?"
" Yeah, great. And as you look around, you can see the protected mangrove areas. That area will never be built on. But right across the pass, you see brand new construction, homes that were built less than 5 years ago."
" That is one enormous spread over there."
" It really is. The first house that you see is only the guesthouse. The main house is an excess of 20,000 square feet."
" Unbelievable! So, this is where the gulf shore really begins and the beach houses begin."
" That's correct. That's where the beach estates begin."
" Many of these houses look brand new."
" Yes, a few of them are. This 2-storey house, that was just completed this year."
" And right on to their own private beach, huh?"
" Well, actually it's not private. All of the avenues are open to the residence of Naples, and so everyone in Naples can enjoy the beach."
" So you can walk right along there. And what's this over here, Karen?"
" That's the Port Royal Beach Club. Port Royal is one of the most exclusive residential areas on the southern terminus of Naples."
" But it's a very low key, comfortable-looking beach club."
" Yeah. It was built in the late '50s and it's a real authority of beach--"
" Nice."
" beach clubs. Bob, now, we're along the Moorings and Park Shore Beach where all the condominiums are. This group of condominiums are mid-rises and they're in the city. The city has a height limitation of 8 stories. As we get a little bit further north, we're in the county and there's no longer height limitations and some of the new buildings are 25 to 27 stories."
" But they all share the same sandy beach."
