" What is this stuff anyway?"
" It's an acoustic ceiling. "
" But it's not fiberglass?"
" No, no. It's not fiberglass. See and it's just dried out as you can see. Now, that's for the weather what it'll do to us from the heat."
" Bakes like an oven up there, hot."
" Right. It gets pretty warm."
" And this stuff was glued up on top of the old ceiling. "
" Yes, they glued it and staple it. That's a quarter inch plywood that they put up there originally."
" So, can we repair the plywood sheath?"
" No, that's kind of beyond repair. They'll take too much cleanup."
" Yeah."
" There's just too much to do."
" And now, did you discover those up there? The electric boxes?"
" Yeah, these were covered---- they were covered with the acoustic ceiling in and we tore it up and then were some fixtures."
" Probably they had a fan at one time and a fixture."
" They should've been closed off."
" Right. They should've been. They should've remove the wire and close them off, that's----"
" That's hazardous."
" Yeah."
" Right, right."
" Well, anyway they're dead now, right."
" They're dead now and what we can do is we might utilize one of the Vibro. You wanted to put a fan up there."
" Well, let's talk about it."
" Right."
" So, we'll right go over this---- with the dry wall."
" Right."
" With the create dry wall, right."
" What about coming up to the edges where we have that nice little crown molding----"
" Well, it'll still show about quarter inch over here, which will look good on this and it'll save a lot of time and it saves money on this---- by keeping this up here."
" Right."
" We don't have to take down. We don't have to replace it."
" Okay, okay, but you know, I'm still not sure what we're gonna do about this paneling."
" Well, if it was me, I wouldn't keep it. It's just cardboard."
" It is."
" And it's not worth that much."
" It's not like some of the other panel that you've got throughout the house."
" Yeah."
" It's pretty decent pile wood."
" Bob, they're curious because it was underneath it."
" Yes. Well, we can guess what's under there, but who knows what's under these. We'll discover what's in there."
" Well, if it's a bunch of [unk] that maybe we will tear it off and make sure----"
" Fine, right."
" there's ventilation exhaust and then we'll just put some nice dry wall."
" Okay, they're good."
" So what's happening back there? The same thing----"
" Well, we're tearing this ceiling down until we can get it up using the rafters----"
" Yeah."
" and keep that exposed up there to the height of the ceiling, but let me show you what we've discovered here. Back in here now, we've got this plywood here sort of. There's another opening. It didn't match there, but I haven't got into this here to find out what the rest of it looks like."
" This plywood was cut down."
" Yeah."
" We can take it down. There just about where you take it down."
" Okay."
" You know, that will expose the whole rafters up there and give us a nice----"
" Okay."
" height in the ceiling. "
" Now, if I were you I'd get out of the way."
" Right."
" Well, look that Al that's gonna be pretty when we take it all of it out."
" Right. We'll get this all over down in here and we'll get this nice height, you know, ceiling up there."
" Alright. So, this Al is the rafter was put it in originally in 1938 when they built the house, right?"
" Right."
" And here. And what I'm looking at is no insulation or whatsoever, Al."
" Fair enough."
" Yeah."
" Well, we're gonna insulate all of this. Anyway, but this is gonna give you a nice height ceiling. "
" Yeah, it's gonna be nice. The architect's idea----"
" Right, right."
" is to get a cathedral ceiling in here, but what do you do with all the ceiling joints?"
" Well, we'll just take those out. That's just ceiling joints. We won't need them at such a short span here. The gable will hold it end up and we're gonna put knee wall, but what I'd like to do is put a little lock back there. Now, we discovered what we've got, we can let that go back in there and put it meanwhile back in."
" I don't know about that. What I want is some insulation. It's hot in here."
" Well, we'll insulate."
" Yeah, yeah."
" And if you want, we can dry wall the ceiling and make it like the cathedral ceiling. "
" Okay. We'll have to talk tomorrow about this."
" Okay, fine."
" What's going on in the kitchen?"
" Well, let me show you."
" Okay, Al. It looks like you've done a lot of distraction in the kitchen area already."
" Yeah, they're carrying it out pretty good, right now."
" Bother the old refrigerator."
" Right, right."
" Oh, that's almost very good."
" Well, I---- probably some of the previous refrigerator that was here and is just leaked and a lot of that. I don't think there's termite damage in that."
" Oh, gees."
" What we'll have to do is when we get the rest of the [unk] we'll see how much damage is done to it."
" Oh, Al. there's just one layer of wind here."
" Well, that's what it is throughout the whole house. There is no problem. We can patch this up."
" Yeah."
" You can go right----"
" Yeah, you can."
" And you can tell right through it. So----"
" Well, how are you gonna patch it?"
" Well, what we're gonna do is take out to where the wood is solid, put a piece of plywood in here since where gonna put a vinyl floor on this again."
" Yeah."
" And what we can do then is put a tight [unk] it on and we're---- this is good as new."
" It looks like it's really existed. I want this board."
" Right, just one area in terms---- that does not look good. Do you think there's anymore damage throughout the kitchen floor?"
" We're noticing pretty solid right in here now, but of course we won't know until we get the rest of this floor out of here."
" Right."
" Well, this is where you had your sink."
" Right, right."
" No water damage in there?"
" Well, I don't see any in here. Well, what we discovered here we've got galvanized pipes in here now."
" Sure."
" And down here, you get a lot of iron content and once we see what's happened in this pipe, we're almost done to a quarter inch for your pressure to come through."
" From what the corrosion inside----"
" Exactly."
" Yeah."
" Exactly. And you know, it shows that part of this might be like copper, but we'll never know if we can get into the cabinet."
" Yeah, I know."
" And you discovered."
" It's all condemned."
" Right, right."
" The floor has been condemned."
" Right."
" And the other thing I'm seeing is that there's an open that wall there. No insulation. "
" Anywhere, no insulation throughout this house."
" Yeah, I know."
" The cupboards are a disaster. We're gonna tear them off. Take everything out of here, then drop this and you can see there tearing this over here now."
" Yeah."
" Back slashes. Everything goes then we'll work it through."
" And you're gonna build a new one back in the shop, right?"
" Brand new ones. They'll be really nice, Bob. You have to see them really good."
" Yeah."
