" -This is fabulous."

" -Right."

" -You got everything in here from the bathtub and the kitchen sink, huh? Well, look, these are brand new tiles, aren't they?"

" -Oh yeah, yeah."

" -The boxes are all damaged but they're brand new tiles."

" -There's nothing wrong with the tiles at all."

" -Look at the green ones here. You know, we haven't talked about kitchen counters yet but we could do something with the green ones and the tan ones maybe."

" -There's just about any color you want."

" -What do you have to pay?"

" -About $5 a box."

" -Five bucks a box?"

" -Five dollars a box, yeah."

" -Wow, that's about 50 cents per square foot."

" -Right, exactly. That's why you come to places like this."

" -Yeah, that's not bad at all. Look at this, you got everything from, what are those, record albums, mailboxes---"

" -Mailboxes."

" -Flat tennis balls, water heaters. "

" -Doors."

" -Yeah, lots of doors, sliding doors and--"

" -[unk]"

" -These are like street lights, aren't they?"

" -Sure."

" -Yeah."

" -You got bathtubs over here, sinks."

" -Look at this, you can pick up a spare lid for your toilet's tank if you bust it."

" -Oh yeah. It's the best place to come for one of those."

" -Sure. Not sure about some of these colors. And cultured marble, boy there's a lot of cultured marble sinks."

" -Hundreds of them."

" -Yeah, well, I wanna stay away from that."

" -Right, right."

" -I though we'd find some old sinks."

" -Oh, we'll find some."

" -Yeah. But what about doors? Look at them over there."

" -There's doors over there. Now, I've been here before and let me show you some good doors back here. You kinda-"

" -That's a nice, old French door over there. Wait, have they got new ones or--"

" -They've got new ones that come out of different lumber companies that went out of business here and so he just picks them up."

" -Hey, these are new doors, aren't they?"

" -Well, they're new, used doors."

" -New, used doors. Well, they've never been sold. They look like old stock at a lumberyard, as you were saying, yeah. Not bad. So, we're looking for a pair, though."

" -Pair of doors. We have to find 2 of them--"

" -And the opening is--"

" -Four-foot opening so you want this, this looks right."

" -Well, there it is, there's one right there."

" -It's got a pre-hole--"

" -Yeah."

" -Pre-drilled for--"

" -Right."

" -This one is-- is this a match? It's got 2 holes--"

" -Well, here's 2 that are match, one's got that bar right here."

" -[unk]"

" -Right."

" -Yeah, this one is brand new."

" -This is a new door."

" -Let me put this one aside, and we got a match here, right?"

" -Here's a 24."

" -Beautiful."

" -That's good."

" -Beautiful, beautiful."

" -So, that's our pair."

" -That's the French doors for the entry on the porch. They're the same height."

" -Well, here's another one that isn't pre-drilled at all."

" -Well, we need--"

" -So, that--"

" -Is that better than the other one?"

" -Well, this will be our third door."

" -You mean for the fireplace? "

" -Fireplace. "

" -Next to the fireplace? "

" -Exactly."

" -Gotcha, gotcha. Now, how much do you have to pay for these?"

" -Door like this will run you about $50, anything over 2 foot will run you $75."

" -So, that's about half price off."

" -Right."

" -So, look, there's 2 doors that go up, one on either side of the fireplace. "

" -Right."

" -And you got one here."

" -Now we gotta get a 30-inch door, right, here we go."

" -You got a 30-inch door."

" -Not pre-drilled or nothing."

" -There's nothing wrong with this one, the other one behind it, it is pre-drilled."

" -But let's go with this one, whichever one we want."

" -Okay, right."

" -Right. And then, what about the back porch? Is there another 30-inch?"

" -We need a 32 for the back. This one's been cut down, 24, uh huh, there you go, there's a 32 right here."

" -Is it a good one?"

" -A good one, it's not pre-drilled, it's never been hung, just like new."

" -It's a brand new door."

" -Brand new door."

" -So, these are 75."

" -These are 75."

" -Then we get 3 at 75, and 2 at 50?"

" -325 bucks?"

" -Right."

" -For the whole--"

" -For the 5 doors."

" -Five doors."

" -That's about half what you'd pay."

" -Alright, well, we know we want these. What about bathroom sinks?"

" -We really ought to take a look for bathroom sinks."

" -Well, I'll show you the sinks."

" -Well, we nearly stumbled over stuff here."

" -Right."

" -Can't imagine how he's gonna sell some of these stuff, though."

" -Oh, it sells."

" -I mean, some of these colors are a little bit out of fashion now."

" -Just a little bit."

" -Green and purple and blue and yellow."

" -Any color you want."

" -This is china."

" -How big is this?"

" -Well, let's see, we're at your depth, this is 19 inches. That's 19--"

" -That's a little deep for what we want."

" -And what we wanna do is hang 2 of them side by side--"

" -Exactly."

" -On the long wall where we used to have those 3 mirrors."

" -So we got room to go through there."

" -And, so they can't be very deep, yeah."

" -Right, there's another one that's 18-1/2 inches."

" -What about these, these funny looking--"

" -Well, here's some older one."

" -These are cast iron."

" -Right."

" -They're heavy."

" -How deep are these?"

" -Okay, there we go, 17 inches deep, what's wrong with that?"

" -Nothing wrong with that."

" -Faucet seem in good shape."

" -Yep."

" -This thing works. I don't see any chips on it."

" -There's another one behind it."

" -Yep, we can lock out and not have any chips on this one."

" -Is that the match, though?"

" -It's a match set. Look at the faucets even match."

" -You know there's a third one behind you?"

" -You know, I bet you came--"

" -The faucets don't match, though."

" -Yeah, okay, but these things probably came out of a school or something like that."

" -Probably like that, yeah."

" -Now, what's this?"

" -Well, that could be like something scraped up against this, brought out a little something out."

" -Yeah, probably."

" -That's it up there."

" -Looks like you'll probably take care of that."

" -How much do you think we'd have to pay him for these?"

" -$25, $35 a piece. Good price, huh?"

" -Yeah. I don't see anything wrong with that. These are solid cast irons, they're not scratched or dented or busted up in any way. You paint the bottoms and clean it up, and probably re-seat the faucets and you'd be in great shape."

" -Right."

" -Well, look, why don't you go talk with the owner and strike a deal."

" -Okay, I'll do that."

" -And the 5 doors, the 2 lavs and we'll put them on the back of your truck."

Choosing Your Kitchen Sink
Choosing Your Kitchen Sink

Here's another great tip from BobVila.com. Kitchen sinks have come a long way from the wash basins of yesteryear. With so many to choose from, how do you decide which one is right for you? First, consider your countertop material. With laminate countertops, you ll need a top-mount or drop-in sink. If you re installing stone, composite or solid surface countertops, you could consider an undermount sink for a sleeker look and easy cleaning. Most solid surface manufacturers offer flush-mounted or integral kitchen sinks in the same material as their countertops for a seamless transition and a clean, modern look. Once you ve determined how you ll mount the sink, decide what it should be made of. To coordinate with appliances, stainless steel is a very popular and durable option. Cast-iron sinks glazed in porcelain offer a variety of colors to go with your d cor. Acrylic sinks also come in colors and are very affordable and easy to install, but they can be damaged by hot pans or boiling water. Solid surface sinks are great for durability with a modern aesthetic. For a more historic patina, consider a farmhouse or apron sink or invest in copper, zinc or soapstone. How big should you buy? Measure the width of your sink cabinet. If you have the room, consider a three-bowl sink of varying depths. It s very handy to have separate spaces for food prep, dishes and the garbage disposal. Be sure you factor in holes for all the accessories that will make your sink a more useful tool: strainers, cutting boards and dispensers for soap and filtered water. Installing Corian Countertops and Sink
Installing Corian Countertops and Sink

Bob is with Andrea Johnson from Corain as Scott Lawyer of Solid Surfacetops arrives to install the shop-fabricated Corian countertops in the Punta Gorda kitchen. This counter features an integral sink that is attached to the counter by the fabricator in his shop. The seam between the sink and counter is made with liquid Corian that forms an impermeable and invisible seam between the sink and the counter. These integral sinks have no edge or grunge line, which makes for easy cleaning and a sleek look. The Canyon color chosen by the homeowners is dark, like the Porcelanosa metallic-look tile. Johnson remarks what a good job the homeowners have done matching the counter color to the tile. Bob adds that the cool, dark colors bring a soothing, cooling presence to the interior spaces of this hot-climate home. Bob then watches as the crew from Solid Surfacetops installs the counter pieces and creates an invisible seam. The two sections of Corian are fitted with wood blocks that will hold the clamps as the sections are glued with liquid Corian that matches the countertop and clamped tight to set. Once the glue has set and dried for about 25 minutes, the clamps are removed and the seam is sanded to give a seamless look to this two-piece installation.

Franke Sink and Faucet Installation
Franke Sink and Faucet Installation

The Franke tri-flow Corinthian faucet is being installed now that the countertop and sink are in place. The faucet features hot, cold, and filtered water. The filtration chamber has a ceramic porcelain exterior with an extruded carbon filter inside. Franke recommends that homeowners change the filters every six months. Frank Lowry of FJ Lowry Plumbing and Heating installs the faucet from underneath. The lines come dropped down and ready to attach, which makes it easy. Lowry installs the filtration system and attaches it to a wall-mounted holder. Luke Groden from Boston Basins, a Franke distributor, shows Bob the specialized ball valve with a shutoff to make filter changes simple. The braided hose that attaches the filter to the faucet has a pressure fitting that grips with stainless-steel teeth inside to withstand high water pressure without pulling apart or leaking. Lowry attaches the hoses to the filter, then solders the hot and cold points underneath.

Antique-Look Bathroom Sink and Soaking Tub
Antique-Look Bathroom Sink and Soaking Tub

Bob checks in on installation of the bathroom plumbing fixtures in this segment. The crew is installing a custom vanity countertop and undermount sinks from TOTO USA. The heavy white marble top is braced on the wall with a wood strip anchored to the studs and supported from the floor with an antique-style chrome legs. Bob points out the acrylic tub from TOTOs Baldwin Suite. The tub measures 22-inches deep and 72-inches long, making it a true soaking tub. Borrowing from commercial styling, the custom tub surround is constructed of 16-gauge stainless steel that is adhered to a plywood substrate.
