" And we're still putting finishing touches on the front facade of the house. Over here we've out beautiful carving on the header of the garage door and we're just putting a stain on. We want the feeling of an antique wood work here and if you look on this wall over here we've got terrific lanterns throughout the house which are guaranteed for 20 years near the seaside, that's very important. Again finishing touches on the pergola overhead with that nice strong brown from the Adamson's house and I'm afraid we don't have a gate here yet, it's coming tomorrow. But in the courtyard we have a beautiful little picture coming together and Steve Gasser, hi."
" Hi Bob."
" You've done a wonderful job of putting color in here, I mean we visited with you a couple of weeks ago when this giant palms where in. Tell us about the under plantings."
" Well, I chose my variety of the smaller palms here to give us a little texture, contrast in the foliage."
" What kind of palm is this one?"
" Well this is a Lady Finger Palm Rhapis. It had a pygmy date in the rear."
" That one over there."
" And we have a single in the foreground here which is very slow growing."
" This little one?"
" Yes. And..."
" And this won't get too big here?"
" No, this is a very slow birth it's gonna take it many, many years to attain 3, 4 feet in height then we have ferns in the back here in the background fill in the [unk]."
" Yeah and then of course what makes the job so perfect is this matured, what are these, Queen Palms."
" They're the Queen Palms, yes. They have them over here to our left, a really [unk] one."
" Now this is a really big one."
" Yes."
" And then we've got 2 smaller ones here."
" Yes."
" And then what have you done in terms of putting color and stuff into the job?"
" Well over here, we have a dwarf stock for fragrance and Primrose, Primula obconica."
" Dwarf stock, these are fragrant and gives us a lot of nice color here at this time of the year and this is the [unk]."
" Yeah. Now in California these things are perennial right?"
" This are all annuals in here, this is a perennial plant."
" This came from Mexico it's a Cantera stone fountain which we've just gotten working. And there's still more ceramic tile to be used on this job, the party wall here which is it's a center block wall will receive Mexican tile in this shape that's created out of the Cantera stone. And we couldn't figure out what to do with the walls, so we called on some genius full painters over here and how we're doing over here?"
" Hi, how you doing?"
" Susan's up there pretty busy too."
" Yeah."
" And can you tell us a little bit Randall about how you create this effect?"
" Well what we do is we start out with a base color which is kind of a pinky color, light pinky color."
" Yeah."
" And we use a palette of 3 other colors. And as you see Susan's sponges them on simultaneously and blends them."
" Is it latex paint?"
" It's all latex paint, it's all latex exterior paints and we usually put a little bit of varnish and thin them down a little bit so they're workable."
" You can put varnish in with it."
" Right, water based varnish, yeah."
" But what's the trick to making it look like stone."
" Well it's blending and just getting that feeling of stone and then also what we do is we, once Susan is done we grout in here to give it the grout look and then also we do a little..."
" Little [unk] it in imperfections and the like."
" Like rocks. Yeah, rock shapes. Yeah, 'cause you really do wants some it to look imperfect."
" Thanks, it's looking beautiful."
" Thank you."
" Lets go in the garage and see what the electrical work is like. So, Pete are you almost finished with all the wiring here?"
" They're putting the final touches on it now Bob."
" Now this is where all the Smart House Technology comes together here."
" Right."
" And why don't you run this through, what's all the yellow cable here?"
" These are they're a hybrid cables and applications cables. Everything comes together here in the wire remote gateway here."
" They're called hybrid cables 'cause you have a number of different functions that..."
" Right, we've got computer cables that come into the main computer here."
" We've got our 110 that come into the electrical panel here."
" And we've got communications that also come to this area here."
" What is all the black and white stuff here?"
" This here is our collapsible cable and they're amp collapsible head in, this will integrate the video cameras and the TV system throughout the house."
" And cable TV?"
" Yes sir."
" Okay, and then below it?"
" This here is a telephone gateway. This interfaces all the telephone systems in the house."
" Can we have a number of different numbers and lines coming into this house if you wanted to?"
" Sure, we've got a 50 pair of cable coming in here it'll give you anything you want."
" Fabulous, and then below here?"
" Here is our own end power supply and this is the power supply for the computer system."
" Okay."
" Down below here we have the security system and an override keypad here."
" So that's how you can turn it off if you need to from the garage."
" Right, right. Then up here we have our Smart House wiremold surge protector. This protects our computer from any spikes or drops in the voltage."
" One of the most important parts of the whole system then right?"
" Yes."
" And then you've got regular circuit breakers, so these we can all relate to."
" Right, these here are our GFI circuit breakers here for all the computer circuits."
" Ground fault interrupters."
" Right, the 30 milliamp that will protect all the components in the computer system."
" Indeed. So when this is all up and running, we can remote control all sorts of things in this house. We could be a thousand miles away and call this house up and tell it to..."
" Whatever you want in there."
" Make coffee practically, right?"
" Sure."
" So it's up and running right? We'll be able to [unk]."
" Control this house if you want to."
" Good, okay. Pam, I was just wondering if... Do you know anything about water heaters? We've got this Smart water heaters they're actually they're fiber glass, they're very light weight. Do you think you can wire this up for me?"
" I can do this in a second. Actually I have to do this for my audition for Home Improvement. They have made me install a couple of water heaters. "
" Really?"
" Yeah, yeah, and hang some doors and really they want to know if I could, if I really did know things about tools, so..."
" Truly amazing."
" Use me, use my Home Improvement expertise, I'll put this together for you."
" I'd really love to. Now, do you know these interfaces with a telephone system in this water heater?"
" Oh yes, this is where we, you can actually call the water heater up from your phone."
" Yeah."
" When you're away from the house and then you can have it warm up your Jacuzzi or anything when you have guest coming over."
" That's right. That's a remarkable water heater."
" It's great. I believe it actually plugs within to your phone."
" Well."
