Wayland Roof Removal
computer-generated transcript - may not be 100% accurate
" Earlier today we started removing the roof sheeting just cutting through the old sheeting and the shingles with a circular saw and ones this pieces are all removed we can start taking off the roof rafters. And this is really the best way to do it, isn't it fellows? 'Cause you don't have to cut out huge sections of the roof, you have to have safety in mind at all times Bob because people are inside cutting the rafters from underneath. These boards are coming off."
" Yeah."
" When can we take off the rafters?"
" We'll be taking off the rafters after he finishes this few boards and it's being supported right now by a temporary wall on the inside there as you may be able to see right now."
" Yeah, you had build that so that you could actually get up here work it out of this."
" Right."
" And the next step in there involves putting in a piece of steel right?"
" Correct. You might be able to see it in the background there."
" Yeah. Now the rest of all of the roofing in this area also has to be removed."
" That's correct Bob."
" And what you're looking at here for example is the original sheeting which is 1 by 10 with the original 15 pounds [unk]."
" Right."
" And do you think this shingles are 30, 35 years old?"
" At present, as much as all it is, we haven't even put down but checking the chimney, it is definitely been re-flashed and the shingles over there in the same shape as this so."
" This might be a 10 or 15 year old roof."
" Oh easily, this is a second roof."
" Why don't we go inside so we can get a little bit of understanding of the structure of the roof."
" Well we've got a front door still even though not too many walls left around here. So what's happening here next Larry?"
" Well we have to take down the remaining ceiling joist and then we could take down the temporary shoring wall we have here."
" Yeah, this is temporary."
" Correct. And then what happens after that is we put that piece of steel in which will eventually carry the floor load for the second floor."
" Okay, so you got some prep to do over here."
" Yeah, I have to go over and help these guys."
" Yeah and over here we've got the, these are the 2 by 10's that we saw being pushed in to the house frame earlier. They really, well they perform a structural function because when you wanna put up a second floor, if all you have is a 2 by 6 ceiling joist such as this one, you can't put a floor deck on top of it you got to beef it up by sistering on something like a 2 by 10. How come they overlap this much?"
" Well, they kind of leave them out because they're gonna have a balcony on top of that, that's gonna overlook this one here, this roof here is all coming off."
" That's right."
" It will be a cathedral ceiling."
" When the second floor is on this part of it is an open cathedral ceiling."
" That's right."
" It's gonna be neat. Well let's check out what we can do to help over here. Okay, all the old joists come down now and again we're just using the sledge hammer."
" Alright."
" Okay, let me have one if you want it."
