" Although this is our 3rd visit to the playground project in as many weeks, in fact, in real time, this is our 3rd day of construction. Brett Hattaway from Children's Playgrounds, you've been in charge to the whole time. Are you satisfied with the way things are coming together?"
" Yeah. We had a great day and yesterday."
" Good."
" And this morning has been working out really well, God has really helped."
" Okay. So, you got your rope up here on the"
" That's right."
" On the climbing feature, which is really nice."
" Okay."
" And what's this thing with the spare tires?"
" It is our tire net, we got it anchor into the ground. We finished up our concrete floor."
" That's beautiful."
" Yesterday evening."
" So, this is also something that the kids can just go up or down. These are not used tires, are they?"
" No, they're factory new."
" Yeah."
" Factory rejects actually."
" They're rejects, right."
" They're clean when we get them."
" Great."
" So what happens up this way?"
" Yeah. We just take a nice little stroll up the stairs"
" And you got your pickets in place."
" That's one of things in the entire structure is complete with all pickets mount."
" So that nobody can just fall off of this way."
" That's right, nobody will fall."
" And what's happening up here? Oh, this is gonna be an exciting space for a lot of little 8-year-old. Why do you have a come-along up here for?"
" We're using this, this come-along and these boards to keep this upright in position in preparation for the roof. "
" So the roof will be craned up here."
" That's right."
" The octagonal roof? "
" That's right in the place, right here."
" And what happens here?"
" Here we have a slide that we're going to put in, right now."
" Great."
" Okay. You guys ready?"
" Yeah. This is a, is it a molded plastic."
" It's an rotomolded plastic."
" Uh huh."
" It comes in, we put it together in our shop, and we put it together as 1 piece, comes right upon the flat form. okay, hold on a sec, I've got to get those in the hole, that one."
" Down? It has to go down a little bit. Yeah."
" Okay. Here we go."
" Now, Susie one of our volunteers here, has gotten the hang of that. Let's see if Sheryl knows how to use it. Nice, nice job."
" What we have as a big stage, you can see it for the first time here today."
" And this is the gallery for the spectator."
" It's like an amphitheatre idea."
" 3 benches."
" And then, you can have children playing behind a puppet show there."
" Yeah. That is neat. Let's take a look up there. This is all made out of planks right?"
" That's right."
" So you can actually do a little Punch and Judy kind of routine here."
" Yes."
" If you're a kiddo and the decking is 2x dimensional."
" 2 x 6."
" And what are these 6 x 6 on the edge here for."
" This act as a wheelchair curve, to bring wheelchairs up the ramp on the platform, keeps them on the flat form."
" That's great. And if the idea is all of this is basically handicap accessible up to a point and obviously not the higher areas but this will keep a wheelchair safe. What's the idea with all the crenellated stuff there?"
" This is to carry on the castle theme that we have."
" Okay."
" And you see we've that on other areas of the playground."
" And you imagine kids could climb up on that?"
" Well, you see all tops are bevelled."
" Yeah."
" So, that it's not a comfortable place to sit or to be."
" Now the crane is here because we're gonna lift the roof, right?"
" That's right."
" You know, a lot of people are probably wondering, do you really need a crane for a little roof like this? Why don't you just build it in place?"
" Well, not necessarily. One, we wanted to take it advantage of our skill level on our shop. That's one good reason. The other reason is for safety reasons. If built it here, we would to have scaffolding."
" Yeah."
" And since this is a volunteer-based effort, we don't know what the skill level is gonna be, so we make it as easy as we can to build it on site."
" Sure, that makes sense. And very often, do you get volunteer or donated crane time as we have here."
" Yeah. You can do a lot of things with volunteers. The things you will never expect."
" That looks good, that looks good."
" Alright."
" Did you get lucky or was that?"
" We are lucky."
