" I think my first question about Walter Wall is how you get a real good tight installation?"
" Well, I have a little piece of tackles here they call it. It's designed on an angle to grab the carpet on the pins."
" So, this is the most important element in----"
" I say so. Yes."
" getting the tackles down."
" Yes."
" And any tips on how it should be installed?"
" Well, I'm gonna go show you something like here please. We have it here, you put it away from the wall, roughly I say, a fingertip, 1/4 of an inch."
" Yeah."
" What it does is, so the carpet can come on to it and tack."
" And tack right over it."
" Right."
" That's nice and clean."
" So that's the key element right?"
" Yes."
" Now over here, we have. It's a little bit different because we have a baseboard heat."
" Yeah."
" So what we're doing here is, you know, we stay, you have to put your fingers straight down on it like that."
" Yeah. Right off the face of the baseboard heat."
" Right."
" Because you can't get under it."
" Uh huh."
" And the carpet just arises a little underneath----"
" Okay."
" of the baseboard."
" Now, what about the pad that's being used? What kind of pad is it?"
" It's a 1/2 inch residential foam pad."
" Uh huh."
" Uh, there's a piece there."
" Now, is that a better type of padding to use as opposed to that the jute fiber pads?"
" It's a quality piece."
" Yeah."
" The jute pad wouldn't be good here because it's more commercial."
" You get more bounce, it's cushier."
" Absolutely."
" This is the cushier carpet job, yes----"
" Right."
" especially in the master's bedroom. "
" Absolutely."
" Well, a couple of weeks ago, we went shopping for the carpet. Take a look."
" So, I guess the first question is, when you're shopping for carpets, should the price point be the first consideration?"
" With over 3,000 things to choose from, that is probably the most confusing place to choose."
" Uh huh."
" To start. We try to get our customer to focus in on the texture, the color, and the performance."
" So never mind dollars. First let's talk about the texture."
" Let me show you an example of a highly textured carpet that's very popular this day. This particular one is a geometric Berber. This is a very highly textured."
" Is this wool?"
" This particular one is a 90% polypropylene and 10% nylon. "
" Really."
" Now this a plain Berber up here right?"
" That's right."
" Yeah, the Berber tribes used to weave these beautiful woolen rugs."
" That's right Bob."
" But I guess they're made out of synthetics now."
" Yes. They are a little bit more practical and more less price prohibitive."
" Yeah."
" And we've chosen this one for Paul's office and for the stairway. It's very practical. It's a nice neutral color."
" So it's a good choice for staircase because it's flat, right?"
" Right, right, it will take a lot of wear and tear."
" I like that neutral color."
" Do you?"
" But what about brighter colors?"
" For brighter colors, the choice here to offer our customer, we have a rack to choose over 60 different colors at one time. It shows anything from the very dramatic to the more subtle earth tones."
" Fabulous."
" Well, Paul and Irene didn't want anything quite this is committed to color for their bedrooms."
" That is a strong statement isn't it?"
" They've chosen something a little more in the neutral line."
" Uh huh."
" And that would be right over here."
" What about performance stuff?"
" Well, the performance, we have a performance rating system in all our carpets. We rate everything on a scale of 4 to 9-1/2. The one that we selected is this particular one. This is made by Shaw Industries."
" Now, let's talk about this performance rating though. What's the rating based on?"
" The rating is based on the scale of 4 to 9-1/2 and then it is based on the type of yarn. In this case it's nylon. "
" Yeah."
" The density, the twist, and the warranty availability."
" Okay, and you were saying this is made here in America in Georgia? Made in Dalton, Georgia by Shaw Industries who is the largest carpet manufacturer in the world."
" Uh huh! So where is this being used then?"
" That thing is in the master bedroom. "
" Nice choice."
" Yes."
" So, what we have here now is we were talking before about how uniform in getting the tackles close to the edge."
" Yeah."
" That gives us a nice touch."
" So you were saying he's pinned the carpet down on this side."
" This is pinned, right."
" So that he can work over at the other end of it just to----"
" What we'll do is stretch it----"
" Yeah."
" all the way down which is 25 feet."
" What do you call that tool?"
" It's a kicker."
" A kicker, boy."
" A kicker, yeah."
" Really must do a job on your knee after a while. And that is stretching the carpet. Even when we're walking on it, it pulls it."
" Absolutely, do you feel it under your feet?"
" Right, right. This room is 25 feet----"
" Right."
" by about 14. It's a good sized room."
" Absolutely."
" Alright, so in this situation, we've got the baseboard heat so you don't have to worry about----"
" Tacking it."
" tacking it as much because it is not visible back there?"
" Right and that's how we discussed it and we discussed it earlier how it rises underneath the radiator----"
" Uh huh."
" more or less."
" Uh huh."
" That's why the tackles can stay away at that point."
" Right now all these----"
" Now, look at that. He just takes that chisel."
" And tucks it right in."
" And tucks it right behind."
" Nice and uniform."
" And that's all there is to it, right?"
" That's right."
" Keep on going 25 feet. Nice job buddy."
