" -We are building all of our cabinets in place, and I guess one of the reasons is to make everything work out and look right."
" -That's right. It's also an economical way to build cabinets. "
" -Right."
" -Let's talk about the layout here. What goes in this corner? The refrigerator?"
" -No. This is a focal point when you look in from the dining room. So we wanna do something nice here. We have glass doors up above and a panel doors down below."
" -The scale is enormous. It's what, ten feet high?"
" -About 10 feet and it relates to the window, so that the window height and the trim will follow all the way around the"
" -room with the cabinet height."
" -The 12 foot ceiling height really makes you feel like you're in a huge volume. But the kitchen itself is a"
" -A 14 by 20."
" -Which is a good size, but not enormous."
" -Right."
" -So you've already got a lot of the lower cabinet units built. And what are you making them out of?"
" -Basically, similar to what we are making the shelves in the library. Out of A-C plywood, 4 phases."
" -Very popular."
" -Excuse me proper phases."
" -Yeah."
" -And then we've just got simple plywood on the back of ledgers."
" -A little one or quarter inch backer. Yeah."
" -What goes here?"
" -Uh, we're looking into different types of stone to give it a traditional feel. A marble might be more traditional, but actually the granite holds up better."
" -Yeah. Where does the stove go?"
" -We've got a gas cook stove. It will go right here."
" -A cook top."
" -Right."
" -Cook it up. And a microwave up above with the vent for"
" -The dishwasher. "
" -And the cabinet up above that all the way up to the window line?"
" -Right."
" -What were you saying is you wanna maintain that kind of line around the whole room."
" -That's right."
" -I got you."
" -And then a dishwasher here. And then, the sink will put on the 45 degree angle here where you have a view out of the window."
" -Is it a problem not putting the dishwasher directly adjacent to the sink?"
" -It's close enough. I mean you know it just have to run the lines to this one little cabinet from the hose."
" -Yeah."
" -Okay, then what happens to the middle here?"
" -Well, here we'll gonna have a double wall oven and then adjacent to it, a built-in refrigerator."
" -What are these old doors here for?"
" -These are actually some doors that we salvaged from a Turn of the Century Sun Run and we salvaged these about 6 years ago and we've saved them in our warehouse. And we're gonna use these for all the upper cabinets from this side of the room."
" -There not rocking or anything just have to replace some glass. Oh, this one looks pretty good."
" -Yeah. Here you can see how the craft beautiful wood and when they're painted, they look very nice, very traditional."
" -Yeah. Well, if you have to go and have them made, it would cost fortune."
" -That's right."
" -And what's going on the corner here?"
" -Well, Bobby Dancy is building this upper cabinet for us."
" -Hi Bobby."
" -Hi you doing Bob."
" -Now, what's your approach to building this here? The old fashion built-in place where, right?"
" -Yes it is. What I'm doing is taking my leather strip. I got my blue chalk on and already laid out. I'll take my nail gun. Make a little noise here."
" -Go ahead."
" -I nailed them in place."
" -So what's the backer that you got there?"
" -It's quarter inch Louwan plywood. It's very simple to use. It's easier, more versatile to use. On this wall, particular, I had a pat out to level up my Louwan so they would look like leaning back into the wall."
" -Sure. We're still looking at old walls."
" -Right exactly."
" -In this old house."
" -Right."
" -And then what happens in the corner? Why do you have that angled piece there?"
" -We've got this here, because we've got a duct pipe, which is right here."
" -Oh I see, yeah."
" -It's coming up. So we go count the duct pipe up and we got a 45-degree angle coming in the corner here to cover it out."
" -Well, let's just watch you go to work. I wanna see how these goes together."
" -Okay, so we're having carpenters glue at all the joints, right."
" -Right."
" -Even they were shooting it."
" -That will help it stiffen it out."
" -Yeah. And the base frame is being made up with that wonderful Southern yellow pine."
" -That's right."
" -And of course it's a good thing there were power nailing it because not the easiest thing to hammer."
" -It's the same wood as the windows were using the [unk]"
" -Now, the salvaged got window."
" -Right, okay."
" -Now, how stiff is this gonna get though."
" -Well, we're gonna have to put some braces and behind the [ukn]4:45 we stiffen them up."
" -Okay."
" -Even a cabinet looks spacious, people tend to load them up with all source of crackery and ironstone and stocks seditious."
" -Right."
" -They'll be real stiff when we're finished."
" -All right Bobby, that looks pretty simple. That's uh."
" -The one that you're doing?"
" -Is it part of pair?"
" -This is it right here?"
" -Now, these windows are gonna require cutting and fitting."
" -A lot of fitting before they can really be termed cabinet doors. But."
" -Right."
" -And a little latch."
" -Closes?"
" -Yeah."
" -And then this piece is the third piece for the top."
" -Right. [unk]5:22 and then we'll have a crown that goes with that."
" -Yeah."
" -I can tell you, you can save a lot of money building your own cabinets this way, especially if you're using salvaged windows for doors."
