Baseboard Replicas

" Now we're on the 2nd floor of the mansion and this is basically a landing that's big enough to be a living room and through that entrance is the private quarters for the first family, but right now we're in kinda semi-public space because both of these are official guest bedrooms. Supposedly in one of them, the Marquis de Lafayette slept, and in this one Bob Ryley is sorting through the lumber. Hi!"
" Hey Bob."
" What do you got here?"
" Well, we got some base wood and some of the moldings are getting ready to the lab, trim out up here."
" This is the exact replica of the original profile?"
" Exactly right. They would have had somebody pointing this all down in one piece."
" Yeah."
" But now we're milling them out of poplar which is a nice, inexpensive, and steady wood."
" Right."
" Takes paint really well."
" So you're working on these downstairs, but this is a good spot for us to talk about what they're, how they're using this space where the baseboards go?"
" Right. Basically what they're doing is the electricians are going ahead of the carpenters and they're running all of the conduit into this cavity here, and created by the masons."
" The masons have come in and done a little temporary demolition of it, if you would."
" Right."
" Removing enough brick material so that you got a good 6 inches or so in there to run"
" All of this conduit."
" which will have what, just the electrical wiring? "
" Well, this room here, all this cut really is the telephone lines, the electrical wiring, maybe some communication lines. Some of the other rooms have got some heat going in there and all sorts of different things."
" Uh huh."
" This one is rather simple on the actual."
" And then once they've finished, they just pack this all back in with the original bricks"
" Right. The masons will come back and"
" and mortar and it will just be basically solid."
" Right, but will have the conduit going through it?"
" Yup, sure it will."
" Now, does this present any special problems in putting the baseboard back up?"
" Yeah, it's- it gets to be pretty creative for the carpenters, head down on the 1st floor now, why don't we take a look on what they're doing?"
" Alright."
