" Now this is the easy frame system that we are putting together here for the first floor deck structure."

" What is it consists of?"
" The easy frame system is a fully integrated engineered wooden framing package."
" Right and normally in house construction, when you are putting a girth up which is normally a that breaks up the span, you use big, old timber. This is a glulam."

" This is our premiere plus glulam. It's an I-joist compatible laminated beam. It's made to match to depths of the engineered wood. We use high strength lumber in the top and the bottom, lower strength in the middle."

" Right. The second component would be our Trus joist, TJI-joist, which is, we start fitting this to this gaps. This is our I-joist. We've taken our high strength StrucLam laminated veneer lumber. We use it for our flange."
" This is also laminated beneath it?"
" Exactly. Top and bottom and then we use our early speed web material for the web of the joist. "

" Why don't you just pass some of it inside here and I'll lay them off for the guys. Now the strength of this, one of the key things with this system is that, you're never going to have to worry much about squeaky floors."
" Exactly. Since this is pre-engineered, it's going to be much straighter and stronger and more consistent than the dimension lumber counterpart."
" So it's going to be, it's not going to cause defects, humps, and depths in your floors like you would have with conventional lumber."
" Now what about the outer edge? We are looking at OSB there again, right?"
" Exactly. [unk] system we use our rimboard plus EZ Rim, it's the best closure for the joist system."
" It completely goes around the perimeter of the structure. It provides vertical and lateral support so high wind loads, seismic loads, and load transfer from the roof all the way to the foundation."
" Yeah. It's interesting how the industry has been affected by all the natural disasters that we have had to deal with in the last 20 years, hurricanes here in the Carolina and Florida, earthquakes in California."

" But these are the type of systems that solve some of those problems?"
" That's right."
" Steve, what are the advantages of using the easy frame system over conventional stick framing?"
" Engineered wood is going to be stiffer, stronger and it spans farther distances because it's an engineered product."
" It's light weight. It's, as you can see, very easy to move around and manipulate versus its counterpart"
" the dimensional lumbar which is much heavier and since it's consistently straight."
" What about the cost of the easy frame system compared to traditional stick building?"
" About fit for fit, you do a comparison, the easy frame system is likely a little expensive. When you look at whole, there are lots of places that we can take the economies or we span farther distances, eliminate structures that would be required for conventional lumber. So quite often, the system as a whole, is going to be slightly more"
" to use, slightly less than the conventional cost."
" Well, to your comment about stability and regularity, you look along the tops of all these I-joist, it really looks to the horizon, really flat."
" That's right. It really shows the consistency and uniformity of the engineered wood products."

" Well, the other part of the story is very often when you have these engineered systems, you don't get the exact joist hangers that you require and so what we're doing here is a slight fix that is approved by the [unk] folks. It stiffs it up. It also let's you use this type of joist hanger."
" It's a great tool. This fits right into here nice and easy. You can get into all these tight spots. "
