" Yes this is one of the most eclectic and beautiful houses in the neighborhood here in elmwood and the people that have had it for about seven or eight years have done a wonderful job with the exterior. It really qualifies as a painted lady. And although we call it a queen and there are a lot of different style influences in the house that would lead other people that caught something else if you look at the magnificent chimney element that goes. All the way up to the top of the turret. It really it has a lot of east lake influence in the the type of brickwork that we're looking at. The slate roof that's still on the house along with finial on top of that sort is something that's very very special and very unique. But the entire overhang of the French style roof is bracketed in kind of an Italian -- so in many ways it's a house that has a lot of style influences. The man who built it obviously had just made a lot of money sometimes referred to as the haunted house or the castle of elmwood it was built for a wealthy tailor John Tripp. Beautiful original details that survive include faux finishes and crossed. Original dining room finishes and a rumor that Franklin Delano Roosevelt had dinner here. Homeowners Peter carts aren't Cathy Lund have already done many improvements to the house Cathy who's a veterinarian and also an artist has created a fabulous shower surround with handmade fish styles. An eclectic house as Cathy can tell me."

" Peter and I bought this house six years ago we were looking for a place to get married and ended up. Purchasing this house when we couldn't find a hall. And we've been slowly working on it for the last six years bit by bit. When historical feature of the house that isn't there anymore is the railing on the sun porch we want to bring it back and restore it to its original condition. We need to do some structural work on the sun room -- to support a rooftop we want to hopefully put a hot tub up there at some point and it needs to be pretty sturdy."

" Cathy and Peter have hired Joe Wagner of the Providence restoration company to do the work and he's already done the demolition and gotten the roof office going to need --"

" St. Joe let's let's interrupt you you've already done the demolition and gotten the roof out of the way back. Any surprises. None really a couple of interesting things on the layering of the roofing it was kind of hard to take off. The house had a an open porch originally and they covered it with this canvas cloth. That's something wanted to twenties right yeah so the canvas cloth would have created like a little porch or deck up there in the first very nice yeah -- and that -- what are the other -- this is called a pitch -- it's very toxic it's been outlawed -- put on probably around World War II now the idea with this was that it was self sealing indeed yeah it would heat up in the sun and seal any leaks a nice thing but toxic kind of like -- and then than they put down a rubber roof to solve this problem which failed and then they put down another rubber roof which failed. And somebody's going to have to fix leaks they decided to hot tub with OK so now the structure that has to be put in here to carry that load will all be. Laminated beams right yes and what direction are they going to run it. The engineer wants us around from this side to that side carrying the hot tub up here on the two major posts on a big LVL so you understand the whole width of it yes now what have you got up there were those those don't have to get the cripples out well we're gonna take these cripples out to install the LVL -- left this one it's kind of interesting what is that. It looks like a piece of a baluster maybe a decorative piece from when. Being close as they took stuff off the top and just hospital means to just used it for filler Shia and -- and so one of the key things as the exterior is called bracket it you don't want to -- take that you don't want to touch any of that possible let's again the next step is to start the restructuring of it. Yep yep we're gonna go ahead the engineer was here this morning explained let's check it all out so ready to go on that respect."

" We're building the whole structure out of International Paper LVLs. Laminated veneer lumber. Which gives it added strength. And -- 62 and five sixteenths five sixteenths."

" Started yeah yeah. It's like about it. Okay let's call up soon and send my end up yet. OK go to."

" Right that's been. -- the three know what the letters down."

" Pixel the end that's in your hands has to go up. Joe you're just putting them right into those joist hangers. Yeah Bob we'll just before you put the joist hangers on you had to beef everything up right. Yeah on the outside beam we actually corrected some framing sag and then we attached plywood to form a box beam for strength in the future."

" tell you guys. Well Joe it looks like you've got a lot more of these joists to get in there so we'll get out your way."
