" OK well mark you must be using some your dad's old tools here absolutely. This stuff quarter inch bead board really brilliant. It brings back the same look that originally would have been in the kitchen gets a say something we found behind the stack yes. Flow in the first yes very nice just putting it in with -- right yes it sound Booth. George this -- plywood. Get used extensively but the floor really makes it -- that look fabulous these reclaimed pine floors just give the room such a nice atmosphere yes. And then the other thing that I think is very important Internet. Room like this is the metal ceiling oh absolutely. This replicate the look of Victorian ceilings it's pressed plate. Metal ceiling from Abington affiliates in Brooklyn. Was there a problem getting up there -- did you go but. Installing we'll look that she's coming up a two by four panel. Right we have to clean with denatured alcohol before we put about there's a film not yet once again while we pre drill and then with gold and put 32 nails in each -- Now underneath the steel you've got plywood again what happens not three -- creates this you can put up either one okay. And then once it's all completed you can paint it. But where there any problems with the F corner detailing the cornice yeah the cornice was the toughest part we had just keep on the line what we've got into the inside and outside corners. A little bit more typical we had to make a couple corners. And up. A couple inside copes and again that's her family comes in my uncle came up from Pennsylvania uncle Dennis and he made all the corners where I'm so you can really. Come up to help you with the kitchen and including the ceiling absolutely that looks great yes."

" Let's say hi -- we're over here is installing the cabinets I ended. Mike these are what what many -- medallion cabinets him dying gold Iraq what. Then they again have that dark stains on there aesthetically in keeping with the turn of the century house like this you. That's applied to and it's recessed panel beaded -- now we editor nice. Profile stock flat stock and crown which elevates the Crown -- look taller as nice as it's still kinda keeps some space away from the ceiling and it's just flipped them but it makes it look like a piece of furniture. So -- we get the refrigerator in the Victorian era hole that's and then. How -- they deal with corner treatments in here so that mark has chosen the super lazy Susan and diagonal application. And it works out very welcome thickens pour a lot of wind nice is it's wood yeah yeah we're. And then on the top corner top article in easy reach corner you know and it just hinges and pulls out of the way for me. Access to the corner without the diagonal it shows some depth in this corner here because of the sure. Application from the stove into the corner it'll make it look a lot larger and a lot deeper OK."

" So we're almost ready for the countertops that's the good. All right to get the same beadboard wainscoting in this bathroom in here. And the same flooring run right through I think that's a good choice even -- it's -- bathroom this is that beautiful pine floor that'll put up with any kind of -- And then we've got when he's Kohler corner shower. Floors. Yes and we have the glass doors for a glass floors on the garage -- put them in yet most and you just finished the title actually yeah from zepa last night we just have to do some running neck. It's nice choices this pattern can use. Rectangular size and then you've combined the steel ceiling is stamped ceiling with bead board in the other section of this group. So that it's kind of an eclectic look but I think it all works very nicely."

Expanded Outdoor Living
Expanded Outdoor Living

The Mashers' Victorian remodel includes an expansive outdoor deck to bring indoor living outside. Bob looks at the western red cedar deck that creates the transition from indoors to the gardens and yard planned by Ruth Foster. Meg Tarvin from FrontGate joins Bob to look at the furnishings that recreate this space as an extension of indoor living. Starting on the deck, Tarvin shows Bob the teak table with a stone center that turns and functions as a lazy susan. The teak chairs and umbrella are upholstered in a Sunbrella fabric to live up to year-round northern weather. Below the deck, an outdoor room is furnished with a wicker-look synthetic couch and chairs with Sunbrella-covered cushions. The seating and the elegant rug are synthetic and intended to live outdoors in all kinds of weather. To keep outdoor living comfortable, FrontGate has provided a Mosquito Magnet to attract and trap biting insects and a firepit for warmth and ambience.

Building Custom Countertops
Building Custom Countertops

The kitchen counters are being installed, but need to be crafted on site since they were too large for the high-rise elevator. Brad Brewster of Princeton Custom Cabinetry explains that one set of counters was prefabricated at the shop, then brought to the apartment in pieces. The installers make a field joint to bring the two sections together, first by applying contact cement to the two edges, then angling the edges together so that the Formica seam forms tightly as the counter is lowered into place. The counters are then secured with screws from underneath. The second part of the installation requires on-site assembly. The condo's long kitchen counter ends in a round dining center. The entire installation will be done with one large piece of Formica that is 5 foot by 12 foot, making a seamless surface down the entire length of the counter. For the specialty rounded counter, Princeton Custom Cabinetry uses a Verola plywood from South America that is strong and provides a stable undercore for the suspended counter. Once in place, a stainless steel post will serve as a leg for the rounded counter, giving it extra support. The plywood is covered with contact cement that is allowed to dry for five minutes. Spacers are then laid across the face of the plywood so that the Formica can be positioned correctly without getting stuck to the adhesive before the crew is ready. Ernie Wernecke removes the last spacer showing Bob how a tight consistent seam is made using this technique.

Installing Kitchen Cabinets
Installing Kitchen Cabinets

The new kitchen space in the Miami condo has been opened up and brightened. Bob meets with LesCare cabinet representative Brad Brewster, of Princeton Custom Cabinetry, who explains the features of this semi-custom cabinet line. Bob has selected a standard white, contemporary style that features invisible hardware, undermount drawers, and edge-banded finishing that completely encases the fiberboard core. The cabinets look seamless, and almost completely eliminate off-gassing thanks to the edge-banded design. Brewster shows Bob the kitchen layout and the lazy Susan that spins 360 degrees to provide full access to the corner cupboard. Bob prices out the kitchen cabinetry and counters per running foot and finds it to be an affordable, elegant, easy-care solution for the getaway kitchen.

The kitchen is set for company, but the counters are clean and uncluttered. Appliances in white complement the adjacent living space in this open-plan apartment. The Whirlpool double-door refridgerator in white, with lots of storage and features, blends with the oven and cooktop, also from Whirlpool, and the Energy Star dishwasher with high-end features like wine-glass racks and special wash cycles. Bob challenged the crew to outfit the kitchen completely by shopping online from Sears.com. Juicers, pots, pans, blender, combination microwave-convection oven, coffee grinder and brewer, were all selected, delivered, and tucked away in this getaway kitchen designed for easy entertaining.
