" We're here with Steve Moore at architectural brass in Warwick, Rhode Island where we're gonna get a lesson on how we can replicate. The missing parts. Now what's missing from our door is the escutcheon right purchase this big plate. And how you've gone about figuring out how to replicate it well we've made this."
" Tracing."
" From the impression on the door left by various coats of lacquer and and build up after someone has stripped away so it was. It was stripped off of the door the escutcheon plate but there had been enough of -- varnish build up that there was still an outline of it correct correct so this kind of like making a rubbing from a great stuff exactly just -- them out. -- but a piece of tracing paper up there and lightly rub on it -- the impression pretty nicely and what's the next step but it the next step that is to make a cardboard of that template."
" And we've done that here we use this. To lay on the brass to scribe around it."
" And then we elongated it to cover up some of the damage on the door OK so you simply stretched it maybe a little bit -- and what's the raw material that you're working for a."
" Well this is 80000 brass. "
" Sheet stock solid brass 80080000. Of an inch thick and that's how brass and metal is measured huh brass is measured in thickness OK. And then this is an example of it partially done."
" What have you done here so far well we've we've traced the outline in Nebraska roughed this up slightly so --"
" My scribe marks about bands are you know right to line party's smooth it out on the edges well we use a small hand held belt Sander."
" Pneumatic."
" Just move this off and glasses on. -- Are you actually make the cuts to get this shape make the cuts on a band -- These -- France's south metal fence that takes care what about the apology. In the polishing room through here. OK so looks like your basic polishing -- just. -- right yes it's a cotton. Well let's -- see how our discussion -- on the door. OK old hinges really came out beautifully. Hundred years old are you ready to put the escutcheon plates on there are. And that goes. Right over the old holes. I think it's great that you drive them all in by hand the old fashioned way. We want to scratch the the lacquer finish. Right now we're ready to try one of these lion heads. They're really handsome. And now this is new work though it's a brand new hardware okay."
