Custom Home Design Using Computer Software

Inspired by the interior wall panels seen in the Winslow-Crocker house in Yarmouthport, Mass. (see tour in episode 1), Bob and crew go to work on replicating the panels in the Modern Colonial project house's dining room. To talk more about the general design of the home, Ben Larochelle, director of custom home plan services for Drummond Designs, visits the project house. Larochelle demonstrates the computer design software that was used to modify the house plans. Using professional design software, Drummond Designs can make custom modifications to any home plan to suit the owner's needs.

" Hi Betty how are I -- nice to meet you. Thank you now. Ryley and I had a lot of fun building this paneled wall last week had. Which is inspired by colonial paneling that we found at the Winslow Crocker house in -- exactly it's yes and what we did basically was it's sense sketches and some snapshots to -- guys and you did the restaurant exactly from working from sketches and actual measurements of this wall is what we came up with them and makes it very easy for our builder or even an amateur carpenter to put together an authentic looking paneled wall exactly very easy but. Drummond goes much beyond that in terms of offering all sorts of alternatives I -- Drummond. Offers the type of house plan magazines that make it easier for our people to build a house without having to hire an architect necessary give and in our case here. We enlisted your help in helping us kind of customize the interior layout of this house yet and it interior layout Saddam. The dining room upstairs bathroom. We actually had to flip the house. For this set up. Yeah I was gonna say the deed the builder here has built numerous houses that are kind of the identical floor plan -- this is kind of a developer's house. And in this case because of the configuration of the lot and how it slopes back exactly you needed to flip the house we had to flip the house because of the -- comfort current configuration and so we've got the garage where in other houses you would have put the living room and we see how how that works on the computer and yes sir exactly as you can see right now this is what we came up with the original plan was. Flip around we had to flip it this way to make it suitable for this slot. And we can also customize any room in the house that we wanted to change the configuration the lay out of the kitchen for example from what came in. A magazine plan that you bottom -- supermarket exact you want to customize -- you can do that using today's Internet technology we can help anyone anywhere in the world build a -- home. Thanks Beth thanks thought."
