Reviewing the Kitchen and Layout of the Ranch-Style Home

Bob meets plumber Charlie Delvecchio of Cape Plumbing at the ranch-style affordable home in Mashpee, Massachusetts. Delvecchio shows Bob the Moen single lever, pull-out spray faucet that he has installed. Bob then meets the homeowner, Kim Brown, and discusses her choice of layout and finishes. Brown chose the single-floor, open layout because it eliminates stairs and worries with a young child. The kitchen is complete and the black Kenmore appliances have been installed. They are a nice complement to the light, Maple beadboard cupboards and soapstone-look counters. Brown then shows Bob the laundry center complete with high-efficiency Whirlpool washer and dryer. They are elevated to make for easy loading and storage, and use up to 67 percent less water and energy than standard laundry appliances.

" I Charlie hi Bob Charlie's our plumber who's getting the kitchen sink in that's very nice now. I like that the look of that single lever valve. Kitchen faucet moen pullout spray thoughts Latin. Yeah just about everybody is designing the kitchen faucet with a pullout spray it's a very interesting idea. And very yeah exactly very good looking and simple now is that simple to install -- pretty straightforward -- and Charlie let's say attic Kimberly our homeowner. And hi Kim. Are you. I thank you must be a little bit excited I have banks and -- one of our youngest homeowners and you have a youngster of your own well she's sixteen month just sixteen months. So is that one of the reasons why you chose the ranch house design."

" Now let's someone -- because it was. -- convenient Brennan had to -- are going up now fled upstairs I am manner falling or anything."

" Sure that's always say everything exactly so this is a good lay out for you and the kitchen layout is very nice you like it I love that. The yeah the choice I think is good because black appliances are still fashionable but also with little kids and fingerprints sometimes it's a good choice right. -- it clean. I don't act like like one hand and Joan Valle helped me pick that out good developer's wife did all the time. -- got a light wood is maple cabinets are also. Bead board look -- solid maples. And that works well with the appliances in in the black. And then the color that you've picked for the countertops is also very good idea. Because it has the look of soapstone or one of those you know expensive stones but it's -- so that me you know that'll be good on the budget. Now what about this whirlpool laundry system. It'd fit has it been installed this is a kind of an extra perk that we got as. As a gift from our friends at whirlpool and this is one of those magnificent. Not necessarily affordable although the payback will be there in the long run on that clients and tear on time and a lot on -- we -- have a lot of us will actually do up to sixteen pairs of jeans. I don't know how that translates into towels and diapers and you flip right over and the dryer is right next to it. And I love the fact that it's up elevated like that has storage and -- it's storage down here. But the the whole business of loading and unloading is much more comfortable. And I think one of the great things in terms of energy conservation is that this uses up to a 67%. Less energy and less water. Then an average watcher washer dryer. And regulations anxious to try to fit into the closet me -- I think you're gonna have a great time with your baby in this house okay."

Clean House = Lower Bills
Clean House = Lower Bills

Here's another great tip from BobVila.com. It may seem like a bit of a stretch to think of housework as a money-saving endeavor but, believe it or not, dirt can cost you money. For instance, did you know that if enough dust builds up on your refrigerator coils it can burn out the cooling fan and overheat and destroy the motor? That s a very expensive repair or replacement you can avoid. Run a vent brush under the fridge to clean the coils and vacuum them thoroughly with the brush attachment each season. Be sure you unplug the fridge first, though! Vacuum baseboard heating units often to help them radiate more efficiently. Clean out your dryer vent every couple of months to help it dry your clothes faster. Dirt can hide where you least expect it. Unscrew the aerator from the end of your kitchen faucet and check for sediment that could be reducing your water flow. Make sure you get the benefit of the light you re paying for: dirty glass on porch and overhead light fixtures, sconces and even windows can actually block a lot of light. Dirty furnace filters make your heating system work harder and cost you more. Next time you re at the hardware store, buy a few extra filters and date them so you ll remember to change them regularly. If you have an electronic air filter, don t wait until the cleaning light is blinking red; frequent cleaning lowers costs. Find out more at BobVila.com: The ultimate home improvement web site!
