Luxury Kitchen Appliances, Finishes, and Cabinetry

Bob and Chris Vila are in the huge kitchen of the Manhattan Brownstone with floor-to-ceiling cabinets and oversized elements that take advantage of the abundant space. The island is a full 96 inches wide with front-facing deep cabinets and drawers with panel fronts that match the wainscoting throughout the kitchen and living space. The appliances are large-scale, professional quality, and stainless-steel. The 48-inch Wolf range has six burners, a central grill station, and convection and standard ovens. The Wolf range hood is also stainless steel, and functions as a smart appliance, responding to heat by automatically turning on and adjusting its fan speed. The hood vents to the outside and has halogen lighting. A pot-filling faucet sits above the stove for easy filling of large pots. The stainless-steel sink is made by Julien of Canada and features front drawers for sponge and scrubber storage.

" Now looking at the major part of the kitchen here we've got a situation where we have the space. And so we've put in oversized elements the kitchen island what's the size Chris is about eight -- yeah this is 96. Wife and we've. Tried to replicate. The look of the wainscoting that's throughout the space in these in this portion of the cabinet so that what we got here are big single panel doors. There are like garage doors. And these bins or rather these openings allow you space for either a microwave or toaster ovens or other things and then big storage drawers. All along this side because this faces the area where you're gonna have a table and chairs and family dining breakfast and everything else happening. And the finish again I think is really nice with the floor. It's. I mean it works very very nicely and then continuing with the large scale. Appliances well this is where we had some room to put in some huge appliances general we've put in a wolf. 48 inch -- associates burners and and it's going to grill station in the middle. Infrared intolerance -- it's got dual ovens the right one is a convection but the last one. There's just a regular. Yeah these are these grease trays that come up with a one fantastic stove now the range hood is actually it's a smart hood so as soon as it senses heat it turns itself on automatically yet and it's got the halogen lighting and since because again and it controls the speeds exactly yet and this is inducted to the -- through their deductible if the roof no that's quite an advance so 48 inches here 48 inches for refrigeration exactly. Of course the cabinets from Thomas bump which. RS also personal qualities. Maple interiors. And again using this particular brushed metal finish I think this is a very good choice -- it continues that feeling of being and that's very with the with Syria is as big dimples -- and -- two of them yeah it's a nice match to the -- And then the other bit of stainless steel that's really special is the the sink which is from -- a Canadian company. That traditionally made restaurant equipment and they've started making residential products and on the front of it they have these -- civil. Drawers that open up where you can keep your sponge and subscribers or whatever -- And what Austin that we -- the other thing this is done in the pot filler yeah so we got to get former defense. Right now this is where it's actually so this pops up. And it's levels and it's articulated exactly yeah so this is this just eliminates an eleven -- I was there pots full of water for pasta things like that that's great. And you know what one of the things that really makes it for me in terms of the overall design is that from the beginning to the end you get the full height yet. And there's a lot of storage space way up here just below the -- That we'll be difficult to get with that get to unless you have a storage system I -- Saturday it. And that's something that you know can be thought of as an afterthought in terms of an interior designer coming into the space -- we're really. Doing the space thinking that eventually we'll eventually somebody's going to come through here -- do this place and now we really wanted to deliver. What's called you know luxury well white -- definitely --"

Because this is an affordable house, most of the items in the kitchen were builder-supplied. The kitchen features oak cabinets and laminated countertops. With affordable homes, it's important to acquire appliances in the most efficient way. Big builders can buy everything wholesale but smaller builders often have to depend on the local mom-and-pop suppliers. BrandSource has an online network of 2,500 dealers who are locally owned but buy in bulk so the savings are passed on to the consumer. The main door of the refrigerator is at eye level and the freezer is a pull-out drawer down below. There are two separate compartments in the freezer so items do not get buried at the bottom. A dishwasher from Fisher-Paykel features two drawer modules instead of one so smaller loads can be run more regularly. The dishwasher is Energy Star rated and is extremely efficient. An electric range from GE completes the package.

low voltage vs line voltage halogen lighting

I like the idea of low voltage recesssed halogen lights but my local hardware superstore stocks mostly line voltage fixtures. Are the low voltage fixtures unpopular for some reason?

low voltage vs line voltage halogen lighting

No, in fact I prefer the low voltage tracks. The difference is aesthetics. With line voltage systems you must use a 110V bulb which I think comes in only 1 size or you must use transformers at each lamp fixture on the track, this makes them bulky.

Halogen lighting

I am trying to decide whether to purchase halogen light fixtures for the bathroom or stick with conventional incandescent fixtures. I understand that most halogen fixtures require a 110-12V transformer to be installed, either hardwired or attached to the electrical box.
