" I understand one of the things that you want to do this house is to create a new entryway. "

" We do you know we have a problem this has really designed as a summer house and really work around that way. But when we -- and spent some time here turned out that not having an airlock in New England as a major mistake when you open the door wintry get cold draft severe right into this. Really great group -- and wonderful and we in fact Paula. The great room out when we designed it wanted it to be a learning entertainment space for everyone's family. We have kind of music area of have a great seating space. I love the height of this round just gives you great feeling of mom warmth how big. The house is just under 3000 square so it's not here now four bedrooms three baths. And it. The area over here it is -- this isn't dining area and in fact as you'll notice the ceiling was it was done lower so that we'll have a feeling of intimacy there it's again really breaks will not nicely next Tuesday so nothing's -- know what's behind these beautiful doors beyond that Bob is our kitchen. When they're -- doors which shall we found many years about and incorporated them into the design of the house in the obviously great. -- you know this was our big home improvement project three years ago this was a summer house and I told you before right it's actually right this fight right here was an extra wall of the house. So -- kitchen was relatively small. All right it was good sizes about ten by thirteen think that once they started trying to have breakfast in this kitchen with three kids to when we're teenagers. Were tripping -- all over each other trying to make an English -- and -- just doesn't have to use the dining room -- everything that was really problematic. So you've -- the house out what maybe ten or fifteen feet we did. It turned having just about fifteen think that Bob and the ended up with it's just wonderful space and gigantic kitchen I'll -- looks huge and it is -- to entertain a lot we at any one point in time I have ten teenagers at one end of the house and might have a whole bunch of adults having dinner here. Well Bob we can really continue and it around here this is our family room. And as I said a minute ago very often will have ten teenagers having popcorn and one and while we're in the middle of dinner here. And they wanted to space that was really cozy and full of life and you sure got that this is all collapsed on most of it all these sliders that we didn't and lots of glass -- the skylight because of that -- not only did we want to live surrounded by lots of life. But we also wanted to have a place where I can really enjoy my plants and I love to start plants and spraying about. And and he notices who has walked in have a wonderful vegetable garden as well we."

" So he wanted to use this space. As a family room as well as a place to propagate --"

" Exactly but you know what happens is that I was little I -- I thought that this all the southern light would be great for St. But it turns out that teenagers and children and dogs and seedlings really don't they have different requirement absolutely teenagers we don't know what their requirements are lots of activity lots of light. But at the same time seedlings need moisture that they need -- cool night temperatures -- need very careful conflict and more control and I'm very controlled and I just couldn't do it in this one room so what are you gonna do that. Well we're going to try to deal with two issues the same time one is we're gonna try to deal with the airlock outside entry which you're really never happens in my house and and then the same time I'm really trying to achieve a greenhouse -- and finally. There's some experimentation. With Hydro pocket gardening maybe grosso only around let us. At the same time must have a place like to really grow seedlings sprang sounds wonderful."

Saw Guide
Saw Guide

If you need to make a saw cut over a long distance, here's an easy way to make your cut perfectly straight. First, strike a chalk line the entire distance. Then, tack a length of strapping parallel to your cut line, set back the distance between the saw blade and the edge of the circular saw. Make your cut by pressing the saw firmly against your guide. You'll get a perfectly straight cut every time.

Securing a Roof
Securing a Roof

Loss of the roof causes the greatest amount of damage during hurricanes. Construction techniques have been developed for securing roofs during high winds. Use metal clips to tie the rafters to the top plate. Improve the attachment of the roof sheathing by spacing nails closer together. Seal the sheathing joints with an adhesive membrane (to prevent water penetration.)

Shingle Ripper
Shingle Ripper

Use a shingle ripper to remove cracked or damaged shingles without having to reside the whole wall. First, determine which shingles are to be removed. Slide the notched end of the shingle ripper up behind the shingle. Feel around until the notch catches on the nail and then pull. Apply a small piece of flashing before nailing up the new shingle.

Shower Backing
Shower Backing

For a first-rate shower installation, be sure what's behind the tile is waterproof. Start with a layer of 15lb felt paper to shield insulation and wall studs from escaping moisture. Instead of drywall, use cement board: it cuts and trims like drywall, but it provides a protective layer under wall or floor tile.
