" Robin one thing about our cabin in the woods from. And it's built willingly with this kind of framed to finish now of course what we've done is we've put a water based -- throughout everywhere and then gone over with -- I mean wax -- shade. -- thing. Not too bright not to -- what do you think."

" It's been nice rustic look and life and you have really brought it all together about this color. I love these Pendleton blanket that are in those old Indian rope pattern aha I tried to combine a few different patterns -- this is a homespun rug. That you can see they only produce small pieces and then make. Join them all up at them in the metal -- I was gonna use this to to do -- captured -- but I was so pretty and it went with all these other patterns like here on this chair in the I found these two old some rock isn't it beautiful that isn't going to changes. What is so that I get medallist at one medallions it was a rock base now one of the boat I'm here and then I'm finishing up with Jenin in the back. So that we could kind of say that you know what -- as the -- from the thirties like. Probably pop screen late thirties -- of us. May have thing characteristics like these arms. And that move about their short like this from the back and he fit really baca remains an acting company."

" Now the idea -- this part of the second floor is that we've got kind of like a library or -- here nice and -- you can combine a lot of inexpensive things that you have wanted to great pieces."

" Ground. Yeah and you can change everything out like here we have the night. The mission copy desk. It's really lovely. It's really nice do you work here and another look at this all the antique file that I found the little hidden compartment here again it's really special."

" And of course with the soaring cathedral ceiling it makes sense to use something like a fan this is a classic -- and it's. Helping to bring -- air that rises back down the warm air to wear one -- political."

" You get a feeling you've got a TP kind of going for -- here."

" And you've been busy in the bathroom as well in the bathroom wanted to keep that same theme going with the outdoor would -- I found this lovely. Bar and late in the era. Is that antique no that's from the catalog and they make all these things new concept and I film he's old an found these in a little. Story can end up."

" You know with small shades of opinion there's a great that we get this sash overheads so that the light from the skylight enters the bathroom. Great -- exactly what they got stained walls like walls like this you can get a little bit dark. And now what we've done for a tub surround is we've used us or -- for -- and Ryley kind of design the pattern."

" With a three stripes with a taste as mentally crazy diamond bit in the 24 hour and -- everything just -- you know stuff it's great."

" Wanted to keep that native American pattern still going in the end though the bath tub is our cast iron whirlpool bath tub from Kohler will -- brass fittings."

" I think antique looking fittings and back in here we have this great built in shelf. Nice and clean put all your towels and hand. And again we didn't put any doors on in here in this that opened you know abolish apartheid doors there -- a pocket door here but not in front of the closet correct kept an open."

" And then in the master bedroom. You've kind of changed the feeling. I noticed you've put. Push you over the book buying got to be -- at our age."

" Now here again I combined and catalog items like this LL bean bed. I would get this nice little -- from Alaska. Bent over and yet we have another thirty -- covered in a very inexpensive taking that we watched 5000 I was at 5000 -- and copy. Nice scaled that chair again you mean then I -- ended up with some nice Muslim drapes and majestic and cut the light a little -- very very."

" What's this thing over here this is an old Plymouth piece. Then it again as a dining -- got a little skits -- didn't they with a dining and bedroom furniture in the town spent. Up here right that this could be next to put a little TBA sure there sure and this is relatively inexpensive does not that popular restaurant anthrax yeah. My idea killed rise to about I think it and then I think that's going to get so much hype it and now you don't have much -- the basement what you do down there will went on down there don't think it."

" You know out of the basement family room can be a real dark area so we paneled and painted it white put in a white dropped ceiling and you really patted the collar."

" What you know we're doing this in my what we do have room for the and indestructible. Animal house time that I had no time. So I picked up the phone and called -- being. All of this with the exception of few accessories. LL -- from the catalog this is a terrific -- does it open up the development -- that little time yeah you can sleep another twelve months is down here and you've gotten cushions and everything out of a -- thing yes spectacular isn't it great what about the -- now this is a nice farmhouse table at these lovely ladder back chairs nice green finish on -- yeah. In the super."

" And of course it's a basement room that has a furnace room right next to it met with the new technology these days this I carrier furnace with a -- designed cage squirrel cage and it's so quiet and it's also variable speed so that is very energy efficient. But the real. Dreamy part of teenagers is the entertainment center at this -- which really consists of a 35 inch RC ATV. And we even got the -- got over here. Different ticker right and it's coupled with a surround sound system from Bose which means that you've got that the big wolf we're down on the floor and then you've got these many speakers and four different points around the room. So that you are surrounded by sound all of -- driven by this. Tiny. Tuner which of course is also a CD player but this is the radio on this drives the TV set audio the whole thing is also contain and of course remote control."

Installing Whole-Home Audio
Installing Whole-Home Audio

Bob talks with family friend Andrew Gillis, an expert in the latest audio/visual equipment. The unit installed in the Melrose home is a Bose Lifestyle Whole Home Audio system, which features surround sound for the room. Speakers that connect to the system were also installed in different zones throughout the house and yard. Using this system, different music selections can be played in different parts of the home. One of the zones was connected to the stereo wirelessly. Fixed zones were also put in the kitchen and garden. These different zones can be controlled via remote. Up to 340 CDs can be stored in the central player. Music libraries can be set up for each member of the family. Based on that person's past musical selections, the system can adapt accordingly and help the user find preferred songs more easily. The Bose system has multiple components and is connected using a Bose interconnect cable. In the garden, Bose outdoor-rated speakers were installed. These speakers can be partially buried into the ground, making them less visible. The base system costs about $5,000. The remotes can control the base unit from anywhere within the house. A product called Adapt IQ allows homeowners to tune the system's surround sound automatically. The space in the basement is an unusual space and the tuner should be used when all the furniture is in place to detetermine the settings for the speakers.

Structured Wiring Installed
Structured Wiring Installed

Bob meets Tim Woods from the Internet Home Alliance at the Home Director network connection center in the basement. It's where all the structured wiring comes in and where the main controls happen: 2 +2 (cat-5 and RJ), cable broadband, security link-up, telephone, etc. Because the homeowners are a dual career couple they need to be connected to each other (home office to the studio) and to the outside world in a broadband environment. In the kitchen Larry Hicks of Home Director is installing some cable for a universal 2 + 2 outlet for TV, telephone or data near the breakfast nook providing flexibility for use of a phone, screen, etc. Looking at the Alliance's wiring plan, Tim points out the security camera at the front door and the ADT iCenter security system. The study/screening room will be a real media center with speakers for dolby stereo running through the ceiling, cable broadband, and a Panasonic high definition TV. There willl be speakers throughout the house allowing different music to play in diffferent rooms all controlled from the audio center in the kitchen. The Cisco Aironet system is a wireless network for the home allowing the homeowner to put a wireless card into his laptop and wirelessly port the web anywhere in the house. Because this is an old house in which they are trying to preserve the original plaster and lath walls, the installation of the structured wiring has required different tools and is a much slower process than in new construction, but it can be done.
