" And this is the house that we're going to be working with pretty typical of the housing stock throughout Kendall built maybe fifteen or twenty years ago this house is on an eighty by 100 foot lot. Three bedrooms two bath two car garage on a slab mr. basic ranch layout that's going to meet Teresa Lopez the homeowner. I Teresa I'm Bob Daria."

" That REM grab them it's a lovely spot."

" Thank you how long have you lived in this house almost sixteen years now so did you buy new by at noon and can I ask what you paid back that."

" About 64000. Like everything is brought with at least twice that and today -- in the wood. Have you done a lot of remodeling justice Hugo and not much we've may be stuccoed over them was -- and after hurricane Andrew we needed new roof -- got new roofing shingles and a new roofing and few things here and there after the hurricane we weren't that badly damaged you were -- know -- about this I integrating a security problem around here -- it's not really a problem and we've only had one break and since we've been here -- but I feel I'm more comfortable walking out my garage when I come home from more influences area by the front -- little dark -- so I feel I'm more comfortable walking out into a secure area makes sense -- we take a look inside sure come on --"

" This is lovely thank you. And this door super knows this part of the original French."

" and around the door that was here was just an old very ordinary door and four right here -- don't change them and put this mahogany door. When the sidelines and improved look well it's a great --"

" But this is terrific with the the height I guess that the types of roof trusses that are used in building these houses a lot of you have totally open space like that -- from one end to the other exactly. And I like the fact that the the original. Design of the house just test partitioning that it's only about eight feet raw elements in and look bigger -- exactly."

" We took up the carpeting in just laid down white tile and also make the room look bigger yes we've made quite a few improvements -- fans of the system but the living area living area and then the dining area over here which is suitable for us her family dining or a few friends over small dinner party exactly yeah small gatherings."

" And then what's over this what."

" Over this way is the third bedroom which we use as our office and also our guest room. Spared -- minutes not too big but it serves the purpose yeah it's probably."

" The ten by ten or thereabouts -- Now it seems to me that the doors that you've got here couldn't have been original to the re."

" And -- well no you're absolutely right had plain white doors hair and again after the hurricane. We remove them and had these French doors install it pretty beveled glass and then what's this what. This way is a hallway that leads to two bedrooms and two battens and utility closets in the laundry exactly yet."

" Very very nice again that white floor really does wonders for the space like that really look back. And then this is what you think give -- your problem areas the part of the house that gets cramped track exactly on the family room and the kitchen."

" Are finally is just the three of us here but when we have a dinner party which we often do. Then it becomes very crowded because everybody congregate in the kitchen everybody brings. Some bitch or whatever and we don't have enough counter space. As you can see it as a fifteen year old stove. And this counter space is really not -- just -- about three more out there is that repeater counter here exactly level sink in the and a it's it's an isolated operas and the family or -- panel exactly bad wind up having to use this as a work area when we have a dinner party. So we really don't have enough room for food drinks and and preparing food. And so this is the problem in this town's not big enough snapping and maybe needs updating."

Carpeting the Basement
Carpeting the Basement

Bob explains that the carpeting pattern in the basement may look like wall-to-wall carpeting, but actually it is Binvetec carpet tiles. Instead of being made up long rolls, the tiles are non-adhesive squares. The pattern on the tiles is designed so that any way the tile is laid, a pattern is created. The system is flexible to allow freedom for creative design.

In this segment, Bob looks at the click-together beech flooring from Kahrs in the key hall. Gary Johnston from DuPont meets Bob in the media room to discuss new innovations in carpeting. The homeowner chose carpeting for its comfort level, which is ideal for a media room. Gary explains that DuPont Stainmaster is ideal for such a high-traffic area because its advanced Teflon repel system keeps the carpet 40 percent cleaner. Gary goes through the installation process and points out the carbon core in each tuft of carpet that cuts down on static electricity, not unlike a miniature lightning rod.
