" We're breaking up the existing patio -- because the design for the new outdoor living room calls for a very irregular shape inspired by the -- the banana plant. If we just poured more concrete around the old slab to create the new shape. We have to go to great lengths reinforcing the joint to prevent cracks it's easier to put in a brand new slap. The only way to do this is the is the right equipment. The electric jackhammer rents for about forty bucks today they you know loader and operator costs about forty dollars an hour. The whole slab ends up in a twenty yard dumpster. This folded up conflict in intensive didn't look at it right perspective that's the line on the back wall of the house and new slab in my. Has this odd shape this jagged line throws real pretty good boy if you're the builder how to you. Plot this out how do you establish on these points polling we show you we've we've we've set up of the board here. In this -- board runs parallel to the edge of the building which gives us a reference point one direction OK and we use the back of the house as a reference point going the other direction it's a little bit like graft. Paper were plotting -- and -- weren't going to -- points and those of us believe the edge of the slab so to speak now what's this whether it's in the ground already this is the beginning of the flat we've already marked that down though the structure starts here kind of in between the two windows that's right. And now we're gonna go with the -- the next point which will locate the smarts get this dimension here before foot five. Send them from from the buildings out we're going to pull. Nine foot three. Not start four point six Bob here report for. The Singapore -- way to get the cross right and you yeah it to showcase. To seek. Now we're gonna go. With our next dimension mark of six foot nine. The -- with -- the edging with a six foot nine awfully here in the we're going to come off nine foot three -- from the building's back towards Bob."

" And here is six foot nine. And not a very next point senate and -- Assists. And then mark we're gonna go from here. That's again for more -- board we're gonna go ten foot one. And Bob we're gonna go can -- one from our -- board. Number going to go thirteen seven away from the building mark toward Bob. 109. That's correct. And coming -- authorities and one and one and he's thirteen nine. And essentially that's how we market but it's that's how -- mark all of the points Bob. To make up this banana shaped so I --"

" mallet."

" All right so we keep on. We just keep on marketing point let's put in a couple more. And then we'll market off in now. Right -- so Bob Vila they were gonna do now she simply connect the bonds. And that's gonna give us -- shape of our banana leaf. Patio. Well Bob now we're gonna do is to spray where we will -- with a string. Give ourselves an indication. Of where the slab and go. And this essentially will help us to. Lay out the form work for the concrete pour absolutely."

Once the roof is in place, the windows and sliding patio door in the back can be installed. The windows are from a new fiberglass window line from Pella, which includes low-emissivity glass for greater efficiency. The fiberglass frames make them more resistant to extreme weather. The windows will not warp or rot in the heat or cold. Duane Putz of Pella reviews the features of the windows and glass patio door. The Pella Impervia door is made from Duracast, a fiberglass composite, and is very durable, and resistant to impact and scratches. All of the hardware is color matched to the product so it blends very nicely. It's also available in other finishes such as brass, satin nickel, and bronze. Both the upper and lower sash can be raised or lowered, providing natural ventilation. The sashes tilt inwards making it possible to clean the exterior face of the glass from the interior of the home. Pella Impervia windows are Energy Star rated in all 50 states and save the average homeowner 24 percent over single-pane wood windows. The powder coat finish over the fiberglass means there is no need to add a stain or finish to the window.
