" All right we're gonna get started today on the backyard deck which is really deck area that was existing in the house right off the kitchen. And we've decided to rebuild it because what was here started out I think originally as the back door stoop and then it kind of grew and there was a jumble of broken up rocks and concrete underneath. We've cleaned everything out. We've put in our foundation -- which are twelve inch diameter concrete. Poured into cardboard. Tubes and go down four feet which is really critical thing when you live and very cold climate where the ground will freeze up in the winter because you don't want your footings to heat up. When the ground freezes that'll cause the hold active. Kind of moving get lopsided. The entire structure as you can see it's all pressure treated lumber -- used two by twelve. A pair of them here. Which are basically the girt for the deck. And then we've got two by eight joists on top of that dirt and cantilever over an extra foot and a half. And we're just sticking to the dimension of the deck that was here because we don't really want to change anything because that would cause us to have to get a variance and I'll show you why. The original deck was built out right to the property line and it but it right into offense. We've stopped the cantilever here because this is where we'll have a nice rods set of steps leading down towards the great hi Bob Ryley. Iraq -- pretty got well -- figure and Danny have a lot by the work already accomplished. Why don't we talk."
" First about what this diagonal double or is all about why has -- framed like that well what we have is a wrap around deck. Which is gonna turn the -- so we want to -- the water away from the house. Not to do that in two directions so directions writes on granite to do that what we've got essentially is sort of -- by going to hit roof coming to at a 45 zone and put out about decking on that we'll all meet here -- school. So water and the one by four decking which is going to be redwood will be coming in this direction -- here correct they'll all have a miter cut on the how much of a pitch to you give the deck. -- AM twelve foot deck to a pension of one inch about a lynching in which Danny up to a display it now last both on the out. And they have band joist there. Side getting -- and flexible. So the band joist is the -- the piece of wood gets attached directly to the foundation. And all the deck joists are hung off of it right there and sit on top of it that's correct OK. And your only coming out. Six or eight inches there aren't."
" Right or covered all six to eight inches and this -- an epoxy system. A couple system. And we're not using an expansion bolt. Well this is so that we jewel -- assault stalled and when -- inject the epoxy that there and then we set peace abroad. Consider the proxy."
" We are all we're using is threaded rod go ahead and cut that is certainly got a couple of minutes grace was that so we just using threaded rod. And damaged by putting -- proxy in the back -- the whole. There's really no chance of movement. And I guess that's better than expansion joint as you don't have to worry about cracking the stuff -- now this is pretty got to get -- minister where equipment and winch is set the ball that got. Fifteen minutes later and you can enrich itself on its way in."
" Okay and now we have -- distributed and wait fifteen that's right it just little loose -- been."
" And of course were only using galvanized fasteners right. I think wherever possible if you can avoid. -- Some of the structural timbers. And put a step that would with carriage closest better off right so definitely put -- now what's that you -- is -- visits are going to hang about where we have to hang this first one on this the end of this stuff. -- being. Board just taken flatten out the flange -- Glenn one of the -- booted back to wrap around the corner and I just systems that. The the."
" We'll just. Position that female line. It looks good."
" And then we'll put the joist -- on after the fact. I make different top and bottom to these joists now this we block to mark the -- now. Or so tall but how do you determine. Is there crown that at all to the capital of Joyce's soul so that you've looked at in the whole purpose of that is that. If the two by -- has justice life. Crown to blow going to put that crown facing out towards the top of the deck so when the waited -- goes on. It evens out -- OK so you've just got them kind of position there but we still have to put the joist hangers in place. Yeah we can do that after you got -- after got a month and then we'll cut off the ends right so that they'll line up exactly."
