" Now we're getting to the stage is setting in the countertops. And we're using a product that's a very New England product -- soapstone. This is something that was used extensively in the nineteenth century it's a sedimentary stone millions a year old. And it's very soft that's what's called soapstone you can work it. With power tools right here on site cut it shape it doing you want to it and it's really beautiful. Like -- this yeah it's really beautiful when you boil it which is what will be happening here because it takes on this kind of gray green. Look. This court -- dry in a minute but. The way we're installing it you can look here on the on the island portion is it sits on top of a layer of this plastic material which is called sand -- And right now they're not permanently installed we're just on the fitting -- we've got that proved to create the reveal here but let's talk with Todd Allen who's done all this beautiful working here. And you've already shaped all of this right time that's correct and the how do you cut that material when you're creating a whole person who actually can cut it with a Saber saw and -- as -- had mentioned this get a power tools yet and then this clean it up with a belt -- yet. And now we're getting ready to install our moen kitchen faucet. And let's watch you cut that -- so are you drill right through with a whole that's correct. I've got half the -- The hole yeah. But generally the public doesn't want to feel -- idea -- the finished product right you want to the responsibly Atlanta this stuff is about fifty dollars but. Now you have I noticed got a scene there and another when he why haven't you finished the routing here what we do is wait till after -- need to give -- the final edge. And then that once it's in place and set OK if you epoxy where these two butt together."

" I -- coming here to get started with our faucet I don't I don't. Like these nice time real nice -- well you have with the first step well the first step is to discuss formal discussion on. And then the rubber gasket. There underneath the outcome. This goes out. -- In Minnesota patches to the bottom of the doctors correct we'll just tighten up -- not so -- let me put it through here on hold yet could you please. They've gotten can't hold it firmly formula. But on the second hole that we've put here for so Fitzpatrick didn't. Okay John can we just it yeah go ahead -- testing."

" Not bad idea that what I like is is this feature you can fullest out. Which and give us. Thanks for our rents and it works very nicely. Right next to we've got another will be added that the soap dispenser we'll put liquid dishwashing soap in their notice where we getting this wet. And we'll let me explain this this is a very absorbent stone and this is more or less what it's gonna look like when it's treated with a mineral oil and that's the key you don't want to put any kind of harmful electorally and -- or anything like that in the kitchen counter that's going to -- food products around it. But when this is finished and property maintain every few months with. With the mineral oils and always have this kind of look but it's so absorbent -- mean -- just did this over here a minute ago and it's already dried out. There's some backsplash sections still to be put in here which will be used to using three quarter inch stone."

Clean House = Lower Bills
Clean House = Lower Bills

Here's another great tip from BobVila.com. It may seem like a bit of a stretch to think of housework as a money-saving endeavor but, believe it or not, dirt can cost you money. For instance, did you know that if enough dust builds up on your refrigerator coils it can burn out the cooling fan and overheat and destroy the motor? That s a very expensive repair or replacement you can avoid. Run a vent brush under the fridge to clean the coils and vacuum them thoroughly with the brush attachment each season. Be sure you unplug the fridge first, though! Vacuum baseboard heating units often to help them radiate more efficiently. Clean out your dryer vent every couple of months to help it dry your clothes faster. Dirt can hide where you least expect it. Unscrew the aerator from the end of your kitchen faucet and check for sediment that could be reducing your water flow. Make sure you get the benefit of the light you re paying for: dirty glass on porch and overhead light fixtures, sconces and even windows can actually block a lot of light. Dirty furnace filters make your heating system work harder and cost you more. Next time you re at the hardware store, buy a few extra filters and date them so you ll remember to change them regularly. If you have an electronic air filter, don t wait until the cleaning light is blinking red; frequent cleaning lowers costs. Find out more at BobVila.com: The ultimate home improvement web site! Reviewing the Kitchen and Layout of the Ranch-Style Home
Reviewing the Kitchen and Layout of the Ranch-Style Home

Bob meets plumber Charlie Delvecchio of Cape Plumbing at the ranch-style affordable home in Mashpee, Massachusetts. Delvecchio shows Bob the Moen single lever, pull-out spray faucet that he has installed. Bob then meets the homeowner, Kim Brown, and discusses her choice of layout and finishes. Brown chose the single-floor, open layout because it eliminates stairs and worries with a young child. The kitchen is complete and the black Kenmore appliances have been installed. They are a nice complement to the light, Maple beadboard cupboards and soapstone-look counters. Brown then shows Bob the laundry center complete with high-efficiency Whirlpool washer and dryer. They are elevated to make for easy loading and storage, and use up to 67 percent less water and energy than standard laundry appliances.
