" Doesn't as the greatest base this is the -- barn part of the structure it's fifty feet by 26. And that you really can do a lot of stuff in here including a square dancing party. And the illumination is metal halide light fixtures from. -- a line which were picked up topic -- force by reference to lightolier and then they really help to see the post and beam frame of the Bard. Which is natural white pine with a little bleaching stain on it. And then right next to it the southern yellow pine plywood from Georgia Pacific with a bead in it which because it was southern yellow -- which is quite yellow we we put a tan stain on it and I think it's a nice finished look to the space. Let's take a look at the corner over here we have. The mechanical systems the guts of the building this is the most important element the fire suppression system from -- now and it's a dry system so that the water comes in from the street main up to this valve. Should there be a fire than it. Distributes itself through the pipe system to wherever the fire is and this is a very. State of the art system 2000. Well it's as it says right on their energy kinetics this is providing hot hot water to heat the building. And part of it goes to two space heaters in the boat barn and they simply blow warm air into the space if you want to work -- your boat in the early spring. And then the rest of the hot water gets distributed through the manifold here into the black vinyl pipes that are embedded in the slab in the automotive and the -- so there's always nice and comfortable and there. And here's just our storage tank analysts say had a Bob Ryley who is building a workbench. And Riley this is going to be a specialized. Workbench because we've got this beautiful having. Butcher block top. And it's going up against the wall and the idea here was not to have a workbench where you're going to be working with greasy stuff for heavy tools. But where you might be repairing. Both part of might be working on electronics for something like that right motors something thought of that sort here."

" You've chosen to put up a ledger against the law. Yeah this some stuff we have left over right I don't put it to -- two by force one by eight and then this is it going to be elect three legs made out of pipe right right right this product are heating contractor and he had. -- of 32 inches long and -- the plant and -- the end yeah you get these lenses. Which just. -- on the threaded ends and then you can -- one. On the underneath the bench and the other went raced into the slab are you right how are you attaching it to slap them. What's gonna drill some holes into the concrete and we're gonna use these. -- groups and masonry. Self tapping screws that go right into the concrete no -- shields and that you don't need a lead shield around in all of these is greatly Remington. That three more of those and feel the ruins. Okay -- should albeit thirty to 32 area. If the butcher block protect. But it."

" That is excellent for. It's at an engine block -- that thing. OK and we distress and screws on the underside. There are entitled going to correct all right I'm gonna go in to the automotive and we've completed some of the detailing in including a very handy way to deal with. Oh yeah we were cutting pipes here the other day but to deal with placing a revised we just kind of attacks this show up. On to this post here in fact Riley did in five minutes watch. I think this is a good idea Ryley it would put devised there. That -- that hostess. If you have to cut a length of about twenty foot like this up the good buys it up there it's perfect spot in -- now all right so you're way ahead of the game what are you building court's problem they can support Barnett backups. Left over pine from when we put this whole building again done. And I you discard in the middle. So you're just gonna have a shelf and and a bracket underneath it -- something really good and strong present it's going to be when it's used it will be getting some. Some abuse."

" OK so these triangular piece of -- service brackets up against the up against the -- could then post right right that -- I'm gonna do is take this. As rapid post. We depend on the sides and it could support from the bottom documents attach -- to a -- these. Twelve gauge by four inch yeah hardened steel screws so don't have to worry about them. -- And we get this going approached it. OK so we'll spin the tool around. That is the handle and -- rise and out of that we can put the other two legs where there ago. What is a great thing to have -- shots brilliance. That's correct. By the beauty of this is that you can move it around out of the way you can use the handle end to pound on that or you can bring it around and senate and -- to work in place right there. Tighten up. Nice job correct thank you."

" Opening at the idea all right now another thing that I think has worked out well here is this. Staircase system. Where we basically put together a lot of pipe with the special fittings to create the handrail and meet code that's ONE three of them. And the secret isn't. These fittings which articulate -- adjustable but you need a variety of these different types of fittings to create you know even a winding staircase and make turns -- you want to."

Energy-Wise Lighting Fixtures
Energy-Wise Lighting Fixtures

Here's another great tip from BobVila.com. We all know that switching to fluorescent lighting saves energy and money. But if it s such a good deal, why aren t we all doing it? One reason is the bad rap that fluorescent lighting has gotten from those old-style fixtures we all remember from schools and commercial buildings of decades past. T-12 type standard fixtures are infamous for humming, buzzing, flickering and giving an unflattering cast to everything they illuminate. Those older fixtures can be upgraded with an electronic ballast. They can also be replaced with the new t-8 type fluorescent fixtures that eliminate humming and flickering. T-8 type fixtures last just as long or longer because they weigh less and run cooler, and they save 40 percent on electricity. Installing them on timers or occupancy sensors saves even more energy, and that s very good for business. At home, a lighting upgrade is much simpler. Now you can find a compact fluorescent bulb to fit almost any fixture in your home. While they may take a few seconds to warm up, they produce more accurate color and less glare than standard bulbs, which reduces eye strain and headaches. A new generation compact fluorescent bulb will cost more than a regular incandescent bulb anywhere from $5 to $25. But each one can save you $100 in electricity and last up to 13 times longer. As if that weren t motivation enough, some utilities offer free light bulbs or rebates for homeowners who are willing to make the switch. Best of all, upgrading your lighting saves greenhouse gas emissions. Replacing just one 75-watt light bulb with an 18-watt compact fluorescent can keep one ton of carbon dioxide emissions and 20 pounds of sulfur oxide out of the atmosphere. Kitchen Lighting
Kitchen Lighting

Lighting design is an important part of any kitchen. A single overhead fixture can make a room seem flat. You want to try and highlight those areas you use the most. One way is to install task lighting under the cabinets or use it to uplight objects. For ambient light, use track lighting to open up the room. You can adjust the levels by using a dimmer switch. This allows you to accent certain areas to complement any occasion.

Mood Lighting
Mood Lighting

If you're looking for ways to add some character to your house, try designing some mood lighting. A single overhead fixture can make a room seem flat. To really brighten up a room, try using wall washers and uplighting for ambient light. Hiding lights inside casework or with sconces is great for accenting certain areas. For a more romantic scheme. bring down the ambient levels and try uplighting plants or other objects.

Track Lighting
Track Lighting

Track lighting is a great option if you want versatility in a lighting scheme. Tracks can be hung at different levels and are held in place with set screws to support the weight of several fixtures. The track heads themselves can be redirected at different angles to achieve the desired effect, and because the track itself is electrified, you can swap fixtures in and out with just a twist.

Workbench Height

When setting up workbenches, the height is generally figured at about hip pocket high. But before you buy or build a workbench, consider the height of your tablesaw. If the bench is the same height as the saw it can then be used for extra support when sawing over-size materials.
