" Hi, I am Tim woods from the Internet Home Alliance. Today, we're gonna talk about planning and installing a new security system from ADT. Most of our hardware has been done. What we have left to do is attach all the sensors to that structured wiring in the house. Right here, we have several examples of those types of sensors that we're talking about. The first one is the carbon monoxide alarm. This will detect any type of trapped carbon monoxide in the house. We have a smoke detector. We also have a heat detector. This is something that you wanna put in your kitchen where most of the cooking is going on. We also have a motion detector. This will go into the main living areas and hallways. We have two types of detectors for our doors; one is the switch detector, this is something that we're go into, let's say a French door; and the other is a magnetic detector. This is when the magnetic strip breaks, it actually sets off the alarm, and we're gonna be installing one of these later. The last thing we're gonna look at is the glass breaking sensor. Now, we've already installed one of these on the ceiling in here. And what's unique about this house is that we've gotten well a lot of glass and windows. It works on two frequencies, one for thud and one for breaking glass. When you have a combination of the two, which is actually the sound you get when a window was broken, it will set off the alarm. If you just got one let's say a thud, a can fell off the countertop, it's not gonna set off the alarm. Right now, what we're gonna do is we're gonna go down in the basement and we're gonna look at where all of these sensors tied together. This is the main control unit for our ADT security system. All of these wires right here are structured wiring coming in from the sensors and are being tied into the main unit. Because this is such a detailed security system, we have added some functionality such as this. This allows us to phone in from any type of cellphone or any other phone into the security system to check status. We've also added this box kind of future proofing to look at if we wanna tie the security system and a DSL broadband. As well, we're going to have battery back up, which if the power were to go down for the next 24 hours it would keep the system running. Let's go upstairs and look at"
" married up to a pilot hole that's drilled on the opposite side of the door. Now, we've got our system put together. We've been installed our door sensor, and we've been down in the basement, and we've seen where all of those sensors are tied in. Right now, we're standing in front of ADT's new ICenter. Now, traditionally, a consumer would have seen a keypad something like this to basically program the security system. What ADT is done is they've added the user interface with the touchscreen. On this touchscreen, you'll be able to program things like light your lights, you'll be able to get your voicemails, your e-mails, you'll even be able to get things like news, sports, and weather. All from this ICenter. Now, we have 4 of these throughout the house. Later, we're gonna show you how this thing works."
