Whether you are hanging bookshelves or breaking through the wall, you have got to know where the studs are inside it. There are three ways to find wall studs: 1) Sound it out; you should here a solid thunk when you hit a stud. 2) Look for nails along the baseboard. They are usually driven at stud intervals. 3) Use a magnetic finding device or "studfinder". It will zero in on the nails or screws that fix the wall to the stud.
Hello, I am interested in purchasing a studfinder/sensor. I'd like one that can tell me where studs are, as well metal and live wires. Is the craftsman StudFinder, Deep Read any good? http://www
Can anyone advise me of a studfinder that works through hardi board? I have tried stanley, black and decker "bulls eye", and a couple of others from hardware store, none have worked. I have tried even the ones that are suppose to detect deep.
Thanks for the reply. Yes, it had deepscan and I tried it. It did seem to find one stud, but it was the only one indicated in a 9' long wall (there were some other blips, but nothing as good as the one) and the one it did find was about 2.5' off of one edge...
I borrowed a Zircon the other day, and it just went bonkers The house is pretty old- 1924; anyone care to guess on the stud spacing and if it will be consistent? Thanks, Robert
the only safe bet is that the stu spacing probably won't be consistant...did the stud sensor you were using have a deepscan mode on it...if not try one that does....i have had pretty good luck with those in the past with plaster walls...
