Winter deck protection

Snow sits on my redwood deck for 4-5 months of the year. Is it wise to cover the boards with a PVC tarpaulin to protect it from snow? What are the alternatives, if any? cheers, and thanks for your advice!

I would not cover it with a tarpaulin. It will hold any water against the deck instead of letting it dry out.
