Bob meets up with plumber Ted Moxham and Kinetico rep Dave Krupinski in the basement where Ted is installing a Kinetico water purification system. 85% of all homes in America have hard water, so even though the Medford house has processed city water, it's still important to treat both the hardness and the chlorine content. Chlorine can dry hair and skin and prematurely fade clothes. The Kinetico system can solve the problem of sediment buildup in the pipes. Over time calcium from hard water scales inside the pipe significantly reducing plumbing size and thus lowering water volume throughout the house. This same clogging can also occur inside water-using appliances reducing their efficiency and causing unnecessary repairs. Kinetico's two component whole house water management system can effectively treat these problems. It has a dechlorinator and softener that treats the general purpose water that flows throughout the house and a reverse osmosis multi-stage filtration system that further purifies your drinking water. The water softener uses a regenerant salt that cleans the tank of any residue hardness and then flushes it down the drain. The Medford system also features Kinetico's new Quick Flo tank which speeds up the delivering of water through the reverse osmosis filter Regular maintenance includes periodically putting salt into the system and replacing the pre-filter and the pulse filter on the reverse osmosis system annually.

Bob Reeves from Blue Haven Pools joins Bob to review the advanced pool cleaning and filtration systems. The 450 square foot microban filtration system has four paper cartridges for a longer cleaning cycle. The filters need only be cleaned once per year rather than monthly. The sanitation system is a copper-silver device that is virtually chlorine free. Trace amounts of chlorine are required to activate the system, but it cleans the water by killing bacterial, oxidizing the solids and dispersing them. A heat pump is also installed to allow cool-weather swimming. The electric heating unit has advanced heat exhangers for efficient operation. The LED pool-lighting system has five different colors and multiple lighting scenes for evening light shows.

The Franke tri-flow Corinthian faucet is being installed now that the countertop and sink are in place. The faucet features hot, cold, and filtered water. The filtration chamber has a ceramic porcelain exterior with an extruded carbon filter inside. Franke recommends that homeowners change the filters every six months. Frank Lowry of FJ Lowry Plumbing and Heating installs the faucet from underneath. The lines come dropped down and ready to attach, which makes it easy. Lowry installs the filtration system and attaches it to a wall-mounted holder. Luke Groden from Boston Basins, a Franke distributor, shows Bob the specialized ball valve with a shutoff to make filter changes simple. The braided hose that attaches the filter to the faucet has a pressure fitting that grips with stainless-steel teeth inside to withstand high water pressure without pulling apart or leaking. Lowry attaches the hoses to the filter, then solders the hot and cold points underneath.
