You most certainly can paint over blueboard. Use a high quality primer - like Glidden Ultra-Hide Gripper. Topcoat with a Glidden topcoat of your choice - Evermore/Ultra-Hide/Ralph Lauren All are available at The Home Depot Mr. Paint

I have some walls covered with blueboard. I wanted to mud and tape the joints then paint the walls. I have been told that I can't paint over the blueboard but must replce it with ordinary drywall. Any info is greatly appreciated.

The reason I recommend THD a lot is because they are about everywhere in the country - everyone knows them. ICI Paint Stores are not everywhere - so recommending a product from them won't help some people. Also, the line of products that Glidden has at THD is really great - quality and value.
